Lead General Rad Tech

OSHA RESPIRATORY CLASSIFICATION: OSHA Respiratory Category I - employee is required to enter isolated patient rooms.
CAREGIVER STATUS: Direct Caregiver. A Caregiver is an employee who provides direct patient care, hands-on care, or has skin-to-skin contact with patients.
JOB SUMMARY:
• Serves as Lead Technologist for General Radiology. Schedules, manages, and evaluates all personnel who are direct reports.
• Assists radiology assistants, radiologists and other providers as required.
• Assists Diagnostic Imaging Director and Supervisor in budget preparation and control, makes recommendations for cost containment and quality improvement.
• Effectively supports hospital departmental leadership strategies to staff.
• Monitors and facilitates patient flow in general radiology imaging areas daily.
• Ability to interact with patients of all ages, i.e., neonate, child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric as required by department patient population.
• Assists in maintaining a safe working environment throughout the facility.
• Participates in supervision and evaluation of students in collaboration with the Program Director of the School of Radiologic Technology.
• Agrees to complete the clinical education series as deemed appropriate.
• Keeps an open line of communication with Clinical Instructor of Radiology School. Perform Bone Density, General X-Ray, registration and other modalities as directed.

PROFESSIONAL/TECHNICAL ABILITIES
• Computer literate and able to understand Hospital and Department Information Systems.

• Prefer previous management/supervisory experience in healthcare field.
• Prefer two (2) post certification experiences.
• Ability to critique processed radiographs (or images on monitor) against measurable criteria as established by Radiology Department Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's).
• Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of the principles of management, supervision, and program planning.
• Perform Limited Cat Scans, which consist of CT Head and CT Renal Stones, without direct supervision.
• Monitors and maintains Radimetrics reports and alerts.
• Monitors sonicu alerts and adjusts equipment as needed.

MANDATORY LICENSE/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION:
The following licenses/certifications are required (if checked):
CPR (Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation)
ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
CERTIFICATION/LICENSE: American Reg of Rad Techs (ARRT); Cardio-Pulmonary
Resuscitation (CPR); Rad Tech (RT)
ADDITIONAL LICENSURE/CREDENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Must be a registered Radiologic Technologist (registry eligible) in good standing
with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
• Must hold a current valid license with the State of Indiana as a Diagnostic X-Ray
Machine Operator.
• Must be CPR certified, (within 3 months of initial hire date).
• Must hold a current valid Indiana State Driver’s License.
ADDITIONAL EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Mandatory Annual
Continuing Education: Customer Service, Fire and Safety, Confidentiality-HIPAA,
Infection Control, Corporate Compliance. Annual Unit Specific Competencies, and all
education required by regulatory, accreditation bodies and/or Hancock Regional
Hospital.

WORK CONDITIONS
PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS:
• Assist ambulatory patients independently
• Lift to 50 lbs. independently and for weights greater than 50lbs must use
mechanical device or team lifting.
• Push/Pull patients of up to 250 lbs. in a wheeled device and for weights greater
than 250 lbs. must use team assistance.
• Lift from floor to waist and shoulder equipment weighing up to 20 lbs. (examples:
VAX, defibrillators, SCDs, reams of paper, CPMs)
• Push and pull wheeled equipment requiring a force up to 10 lbs. (feeding pumps,
ventilators, IV poles, bipap machines)
• Standing, sitting, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling as needed
more than 2/3 of day
• Manual dexterity, as used for performing intricate procedures (catheter, dressing
changes, IV starts), assembling medical equipment, caring for patients, typing,
etc.
• Vision requirements include but are not limited to close vision, distant vision,
peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus. This may include ability to read
thermometers, electronic scales, etc.
• Hearing requirements include but are not limited to hearing and responding to
codes, monitors, pagers, phones, equipment alarms or patients calling for
assistance, ability to auscultate B/P
• Driving to attend events/conferences/fairs on hospital's behalf
EQUIPMENT USED: All equipment related to imaging, if applicable.
