Lead Global JS Community Manager
Description
We are looking for an experienced and passionate Lead Global JS Community Manager to lead and grow our JavaScript engineering community across a large-scale IT services and consulting organization. This is a senior individual contributor and leadership role that sits at the intersection of technical expertise, developer relations, and strategic enablement.
You will be responsible for building a thriving, high-impact JS community that serves both internal engineering talent and the broader external JavaScript ecosystem. Working closely with engineering leads, learning & development, and business stakeholders, you will shape the community strategy, drive meaningful engagement, and position the organization as a recognized voice in the global JS landscape.
Responsibilities
- Define and execute the vision, roadmap, and growth strategy for the global JS community (internal and external)
- Establish community governance, contribution models, and engagement frameworks that scale across multiple geographies and time zones
- Act as the primary advocate for JS practitioners within the organization, championing their needs at the leadership level
- Identify and cultivate community champions, chapter leads, and ambassadors to extend reach and ownership
- Curate and drive a consistent program of high-quality technical content: articles, video series, case studies, and talks
- Organize regular community touchpoints including meetups, webinars, internal conferences, and hackathons
- Collaborate with senior engineers and architects to surface best practices and share them at scale
- Maintain a community knowledge base and ensure discoverability of resources for members at all levels
- Represent the organization at major JS conferences (JSConf, Node.js Summit, React Summit, etc.) as a speaker and brand ambassador
- Build partnerships with external JS communities, open source projects, and industry organizations
- Drive the company's external developer brand through thought leadership, open source contributions, and public community initiatives
- Collaborate with marketing and talent acquisition on community-led employer branding campaigns
- Define and track community health metrics: active membership, engagement rates, content reach, event attendance, and sentiment
- Use data to identify gaps, iterate on programs, and demonstrate the business impact of community activities
- Report regularly to senior leadership on community performance and strategic initiatives
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in community management, developer relations, or technical program management — ideally within a large engineering organization
- Familiarity with the JavaScript ecosystem (frameworks, tooling, runtime environments, open source landscape)
- Proven track record of building or scaling a technical community from the ground up or to a new level of maturity
- Strong public communication skills: confident presenter, clear writer, effective facilitator across cultures and time zones
- Experience running events (virtual and in-person) of varying scale
- Ability to navigate complex organizational structures and influence without direct authority
- Fluent in English; additional languages are a plus
