Summary
A 9-month contract (W2, up to $103.5/hr) lead engineer role in Glendale, CA or Seattle, WA on a hybrid schedule (3-4 days onsite). The person designs, builds, and leads full-stack features using Java/Spring on the back end, React on the front end, REST/GraphQL APIs, and cloud-based CI/CD deployments, while mentoring other engineers.
City: Burbank, CA OR Santa Monica, CA

Rate Range: Up to $103.5/hr in W2
Work Authorization: GC, USC, All valid EADs except OPT, CPT, H1B
This is a hands-on full-stack engineering role requiring recent frontend development experience. Candidates must have actively built or maintained React-based user interfaces within the last two years, in addition to strong Java and Spring backend experience.
Must Have:
- At least five years of software engineering experience.
- Strong hands-on experience with Java and Spring.
- Recent hands-on React development experience within the last two years.
- Experience building and maintaining user-facing web applications.
- Experience with RESTful or GraphQL APIs.
- Strong SQL and relational database experience, including MySQL or PostgreSQL.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, containerized deployments, and cloud services.
- Experience developing both frontend applications and backend services.
Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, test, and maintain full-stack software solutions.
- Build and maintain React-based user interfaces and backend services.
- Develop frontend features that integrate with RESTful or GraphQL APIs.
- Own medium- to large-scale features from design through production.
- Contribute to frontend, backend, and system architecture decisions.
- Write production-ready code and participate in code and design reviews.
- Improve application performance, observability, reliability, and resiliency.
- Participate in incident response and root-cause analysis.
- Collaborate with Product, UX Design, QA, and engineering teams.
- Mentor engineers through technical guidance and knowledge sharing.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Strong understanding of full-stack architecture, client-server communication, APIs, and distributed systems.
- Experience with modern frontend development using React.
- Experience with cloud-native development, stateless services, horizontal scaling, and observability.
- Ability to solve complex technical problems with limited guidance.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
Nice to Have:
- Experience with TypeScript.
- Experience with Spring Boot and related Spring projects.
- Experience with AWS or another cloud platform.
- Experience with Terraform, Docker, and Kubernetes.
- Experience with Kafka, Amazon Kinesis, or Amazon SNS/SQS.
