Lead - Laboratory Service Engineer

Position Summary:

Responsible for preventative/corrective maintenance, troubleshooting, upgrades, and calibration on equipment in the applications lab. Performs maintenance using required PPE, which may include APR (Air Purifying Respirator) and/or SCBA (Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus) for safe handling of hazardous materials. Works closely with and supports Process Development, Hardware, and Software Engineering departments’ R&D activities and customer demos/commits. Installs and supports prototype equipment and may develop procedures and documentation as needed in support of design and R&D activities. May travel domestically and internationally to customer sites to address tool/system issues that cannot be resolved without their support. Occasionally trains Field Service Engineers, Engineering Technicians, other Laboratory Service Engineers, or Process Engineers from regional accounts.

The Impact You’ll Make:

You will ensure smooth operation of lab tools, contribute to R&D success, and provide technical expertise for troubleshooting and upgrades, enabling Lam to deliver innovative solutions to customers.

What You’ll Do:

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Complete all tasks without direct supervision; leverage experience to recommend solutions for issues in the lab.
  • Provide input on procedures and complete more complex software tasks on lab tools.
  • Develop troubleshooting skills and resolve issues across multiple areas of a tool.
  • Act as primary trainer for Level 1 and Level 2 Lab Service Engineers.
  • Lead tool installs, upgrades, and support activities.
  • Develop and test procedures; lead software issue resolution on lab tools.
  • Understand processes running on tools and interactions between hardware and process.
  • Provide instruction on complex technical topics to internal staff.
  • Collect, document, and maintain product configuration information.
  • Explain product configurations, processes, and specifications for products in region.
  • Analyze and discuss alternatives with multiple stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A seasoned, experienced professional with full understanding of area of specialization.
  • Ability to resolve a wide range of issues creatively and effectively.
  • Completes own role independently or with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
  • Minimum qualification is Diploma with relevant experience of 8 years.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in troubleshooting systems in all areas of a tool.
  • Ability to lead tool installs and upgrades.
  • Strong understanding of process-hardware interactions.
  • Skilled in training and mentoring junior engineers.
