Lead Low Voltage Security System Technician

Position Summary

APIC Solutions is seeking an experienced Lead Low Voltage Security System Technician to oversee the installation, commissioning, and maintenance of advanced security and low voltage systems. This role requires a high level of technical expertise, strong leadership skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with both team members and clients. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in security system installation and low voltage wiring, with a commitment to delivering high-quality workmanship in alignment with best practices and customer requirements. You will lead a team of technicians while managing complex security projects from planning through completion.

Key Responsibilities

System Installation & Commissioning

• Expertly wire and trim out head-end access control panels, ensuring clean and professional installations
• Install and commission video surveillance, intrusion detection, intercom, and low voltage systems with precision and attention to detail
• Interpret and understand floor plans and wiring schematics to ensure accurate installation
• Install various door hardware, including panic devices, vertical rods, magnetic locks, transfer hinges, cylindrical and mortise locks, and auto operators
• Perform system testing and commissioning procedures to ensure all systems function according to specifications
• Troubleshoot complex system issues and implement solutions

Leadership & Team Coordination

• Lead and mentor a team of technicians, providing guidance on field device installations and panel trimming
• Train apprentice technicians and share knowledge to build team competency
• Coordinate project activities with subcontractors, manufacturers, and company personnel to ensure seamless execution
• Conduct job site safety briefings and ensure compliance with safety protocols
• Maintain a positive work attitude, strong work ethic, and a team-centric mindset
• Model professional behavior and technical excellence for team members
• Provide performance feedback and coaching to technicians

Client & Project Communication

• Communicate daily job specifics with customers and Project Managers, both verbally and in writing
• Deliver technical training and guidance to clients on system operations and maintenance
• Maintain accurate documentation, including service tickets, timesheets, and project records
• Interface with manufacturers to identify and resolve technical issues efficiently
• Represent APIC Solutions professionally with clients and external partners
• Update stakeholders on project progress and any issues or delays

Technical Documentation & Quality Assurance

• Maintain comprehensive project documentation and installation records
• Verify installation quality and adherence to specifications
• Prepare commissioning reports and system verification documentation
• Document system configurations and create as-built drawings
• Ensure all work meets company standards and customer expectations

Required Qualifications
Experience

• Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience installing and commissioning access control, intrusion detection, video surveillance, intercom, and low voltage systems
• Proven leadership experience managing field technicians and teams
• Demonstrated expertise in security system installation and low voltage wiring
• Experience with complex commercial security projects

Technical Knowledge & Certifications

• Certification or hands-on experience with major platforms: Lenel, IPro (formerly Panasonic), Verkada, RS2, Avigilon, Bosch, Hanwha, Axis, Brivo, Allegion, ASSA Abloy
• Strong understanding of access control, intrusion detection, and video surveillance system architecture
• Knowledge of door hardware installation and specifications
• Proficiency in reading electrical schematics and floor plans
• Understanding of low voltage wiring standards and best practices

Software & Tools

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
• Experience with Bluebeam software (preferred but not required)
• Familiarity with security system configuration and commissioning software

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift and carry up to 75 lbs regularly
• Able to work safely at heights and in confined spaces
• Comfortable with physical demands of installation work (climbing, bending, kneeling)
• Valid driver's license with reliable transportation
• Ability to travel to job sites as needed

Preferred Qualifications

• Lenel Certification
• Avigilon Certification
• CompTIA Security+ or similar security certification
• OSHA 10 or 30 certification
• Project management experience
• Experience with networked security systems
• Knowledge of cloud-based security platforms
• Bilingual capabilities (English/Spanish)
• Prior training or mentoring experience
• Experience with building information modeling (BIM)
