Lead Machine Learning Engineer (AI Systems)

Build AI that doesn't wait to be prompted.

What if your everyday apps could understand what you need, take initiative, and actually get things done - without endless prompts or complicated workflows?

We're partnering with an ambitious AI startup building the next generation of intelligent, proactive applications. Their first product is an agent-first mobile communication platform designed to make communication, organization, and everyday collaboration smarter and more effortless.

The goal is to build reliable, production-ready intelligence that makes a real difference in people's daily lives.

We're looking for a Lead Machine Learning Engineer who can turn advanced model capabilities into scalable, high-performance systems - and take real ownership along the way.

Why this opportunity stands out

  • End-to-end ownership: Shape the entire ML lifecycle, from training and evaluation to inference and deployment.

  • Build from an early stage: Influence architecture and technical decisions rather than maintain legacy systems.

  • Challenging engineering: Work with large models, GPU infrastructure, and performance-critical ML systems.

  • Real product impact: Your work will directly influence how people interact with AI in everyday life.

  • Small, highly technical team: Work closely with researchers and engineers, with autonomy, fast decisions, and minimal bureaucracy.

  • 100% remote: Work from wherever you're based in Europe.

What you'll work on

  • Build and own end-to-end ML systems running in production.

  • Develop training and fine-tuning pipelines for large models.

  • Design evaluation frameworks to measure model quality, robustness, and real-world performance.

  • Optimize GPU-based inference for latency, memory, cost, and scalability.

  • Build reliable data pipelines for real-world and synthetic training data.

  • Develop production infrastructure for model deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement.

  • Collaborate with research and application engineering teams to bring model capabilities into the product.

  • Drive technical decisions and support other engineers while remaining hands-on.

What we're looking for

  • Strong Python skills and hands-on experience with PyTorch and/or JAX.

  • Proven experience building and shipping production ML systems, not just prototypes.

  • Solid understanding of large-model training, fine-tuning, evaluation, and inference.

  • Experience working with GPU-based ML workloads at meaningful scale.

  • Strong software engineering fundamentals, system design, and performance optimization skills.

  • Ability to independently solve complex problems and take ownership of technical decisions.

  • A pragmatic, hands-on mindset with a focus on experimentation, reliability, and shipping.

Technical leadership experience is a plus, but strong hands-on engineering skills are essential.
