Lead Marine Painter / Paint Inspector
Job Summary
The Lead Marine Painter / Paint Inspector provides oversight, instruction, and supervision to Painters and Painter Helpers.
Job Responsibilities
Lead and supervise Marine Painters and Painter Helpers in painting, coating, and surface preparation activities.
Plan, coordinate, and monitor daily work assignments to ensure service work orders are completed safely, efficiently, and on schedule.
Perform and oversee abrasive blasting, sanding, scuffing, priming, sealing, and painting of marine vessels, equipment, and structures.
Inspect surface preparation and coating applications to ensure compliance with project specifications, quality standards, and manufacturer requirements.
Conduct paint inspections and document coating conditions, deficiencies, and corrective actions, as required.
Maintain accountability for paint shop inventories, including paints, coatings, abrasive, solvents, consumables, tools, and equipment.
Determine material, equipment, and supply requirements necessary to support painting and preservation projects.
Ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials in accordance with Safety Data Sheets, environmental regulations, and company policies.
Develop and support Job Safety Anaylses and ensure all personnel comply with applicable safety requirements and wear appropriate PPE.
Train, mentor, and provide on the job instruction to personnel to enhance technical proficiency and workforce development.
Coordinate with maintenance personnel, project managers, and customers to resolve technical issues and support operations.
Maintain painting equipment, blasting systems, and associated tools in a safe and serviceable condition while promoting continuous improvement in paint shop operations.
Perform other job-related duties as assigned that are consistent with the nature and level of the position.
Knowledge and Skills
Working knowledge on the application of paint/surface coatings
Knowledge of measuring surface area to provide accurate estimate of product needed for each job
Ability to follow all safety requirements, policies, procedures and guidelines
Ability to lead a team and create a positive work environment
Knowledge of and ability to perform proper surface preparation by abrasive blasting and mechanical means
Familiarity working with Safety Data Sheet (SDS) systems
Knowledgeable working with hazardous material and its proper storage
Additional knowledge/skills may be required by contract or assignment
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
Minimum of five (5) years of experience in marine or industrial surface preparation, abrasive blasting, painting, or protective coatings.
Minimum of two (2) years of supervisory or team lead experience.
Demonstrated knowledge of marine coating systems, paint applications techniques, and surface preparation methods.
Working knowledge of abrasive blasting equipment and coating application equipment.
Familiarity with Safety Data Sheet systems and hazardous material handling requirements.
Ability to estimate coating materials based on surface area calculations.
Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem solving skills.
Must be in possession of a valid passport and be able to travel internationally.
Passport must be valid for a minimum of one (1) year or more at the time of hiring.
Ability to obtain country-specific visas per the U.S. Department of State Foreign Clearance Guide.
Ability to successfully pass contract medical requirements and maintain compliance throughout the duration of deployment.
Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.
Employees must read, speak, and comprehend English to the extent that they can perform the contract requirements and comply with installation emergency procedures.
Passport must be valid for a minimum of one (1) year or more at the time of hiring.

Ability to successfully pass contract medical requirements and maintain compliance throughout the duration of deployment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior experience working in an austere OCONUS (Outside the Continental United States) environment with a multi-national workforce
A valid driver’s license to legally operate a motor vehicle.
Completion of an industrial or commercial painting apprenticeship or formal training program.
Certification as a Protective Coating Inspector preferred.
Experience supporting ship repair, shipyard, or maritime maintenance operations.
Working knowledge of military or commercial marine coating specifications.
Working Environment
This position is located on Diego Garcia, British Indian Ocean Territory (BIOT), a remote overseas location supporting U.S. Government operations. Employees may work in office, industrial, warehouse, port, airfield, and outdoor environments and may be exposed to high temperatures, humidity, inclement weather, noise, dust, and uneven terrain. Work schedules may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours based on operational requirements.
