The Role:

  • Maintenance and quality assurance of national measurement standards in length and dimensional areas.
  • Establish international equivalence of length and dimensional measurement capabilities through participation in measurement comparisons.
  • Disseminate the national length and dimensional standards and measurement technologies to the industry through calibration and measurement services and applied R&D in metrology.
  • Provide industrial metrology consultation, technical training and proficiency testing programmes for semiconductor, precision engineering, aerospace as in advanced manufacturing sectors.
  • Develop new measurement solutions and build new metrology capabilities and services based on emerging needs of the industry; and developing programmes to enhance technical competencies of lab personnel.
  • Raise measurement capabilities of industry by conducting consultancies, training and proficiency testing in length and dimensional measurements.
  • Troubleshoot complex measurement deviations, evaluate performance of high-end dimensional instruments and coordinate equipment maintenance and qualification.
  • Conduct technical assessments under Singapore Accreditation Council-Singapore Lab Accreditation Scheme, and training of new technical assessors.
  • Mentor junior metrologists, graduate trainees and student attachments; conduct internal technical training, review technical reports and resolve complex measurement non-conformities.
  • Achieve international recognition for calibration and measurement capabilities in length and dimensional areas through peer-reviews by external experts; and undertaking peer-reviews of other national metrology institutes as a domain expert.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with other NMC labs, A*STAR research divisions and SAC technical committees to advance national dimensional metrology capabilities

The Requirement:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving ability, self-motivated, able to deliver independent technical projects and communicate effectively across teams.
  • Comprehensive understanding of dimensional metrology: linear, angular, flatness, straightness, roundness, surface roughness and GD&T geometric dimensioning & tolerancing.
  • Able to independently draft technical reports, assessment records, SOPs and official calibration certificates.
  • Knowledge and experience in the field of optics and laser technology, nanotechnology/nanometrology, length and dimensional metrology (e.g., laser interferometer, surface metrology etc.) in advanced manufacturing (e.g., semiconductor & precision engineering) will be a preference.
  • Knowledge of instrumentation and statistical analysis.
  • Automation and digital skills, and experience in technical and project management will be an advantage

The above eligibility criteria are not exhaustive. A*STAR may include additional selection criteria based on its prevailing recruitment policies. These policies may be amended from time to time without notice. We regret that only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
