We are looking for a Lead Mobile Engineer to provide end-to-end development leadership for Levi's consumer mobile app. This role owns overall development execution for the mobile experience by solving problems with the right framework, architecture, and tools and partners closely with product, backend/platform engineering, architects, and design in a fast-paced agile environment. The Lead Mobile Engineer brings a DevOps mindset, owning the write, test, monitor, and maintain lifecycle of what the team builds end-to-end. The Lead Mobile Engineer guides technical direction, drives code quality, mentors junior and mid-level developers, and ensures secure, performant, production-ready delivery across the app, integrations, testing, and AI-assisted engineering practices.

About the Job

  • Lead technical planning, design decisions, and delivery for the mobile app from implementation approach through release readiness.
  • Embrace a DevOps mindset - own the full lifecycle of what you build, including writing, testing, deploying, monitoring, and maintaining code in production, and fulfilling on-call duties for the app.
  • Contribute to the technical vision for Levi's web & app platforms, defining patterns, architecture, and best practices for the team.
  • Design, build, and maintain high-performance, accessible mobile experiences using React Native, integrated with backend/commerce APIs, with attention to state management, offline handling, and caching.
  • Own app performance, stability, and platform health like startup time, responsiveness, crash rates, and app store ratings — and manage release processes (app store submission, versioning, phased rollouts).
  • Champion telemetry and observability by instrumenting the app with crash reporting, logging, and monitoring to proactively detect issues and uplevel the team's operational maturity.
  • Lead code reviews, architecture reviews, and technical standards; own test strategy (unit, integration, end-to-end) as a shared team responsibility to reduce production defects.
  • Mentor developers, play an active role in hiring and growing the team, and lead by example on team agreements and best practices.
  • Foster an open, collaborative culture with honest communication, peer support, continuous learning and stay connected across the broader platform team via stand-ups, brown bags, and demos.
  • Partner with cross-functional stakeholders like product, design, and backend/platform engineering to align on requirements, API contracts, and integration points.
  • Drive agile execution with sprint planning, backlog refinement, estimation.

About You

  • 8+ years of professional software development experience, with significant depth in mobile app development.
  • Proven experience leading the technical direction of a consumer-facing mobile app, ideally in e-commerce or retail.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and elevate the technical skills of other engineers.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Hands-on experience using AI tools (e.g., Claude, Copilot, ChatGPT) to accelerate coding, debugging, testing, and documentation, including writing effective prompts and critically validating AI-generated output for accuracy, security, and production quality.
  • Understanding of responsible AI practices, including data privacy and safe handling of enterprise information.
  • Mobile: React Native, JavaScript/TypeScript, native iOS (Swift) and Android (Kotlin) fundamentals for native module work
  • Integration: RESTful/GraphQL APIs, headless/composable commerce platforms
  • CI/CD: Git-based workflows, automated pipelines, mobile release tooling (Fastlane or similar), app store submission processes
  • Performance & Quality: Crash monitoring, performance profiling, automated testing (unit/integration/e2e) with Appium, Selenium, and Java
  • Observability: Experience with mobile telemetry, crash reporting, and monitoring tools (e.g., Firebase Crashlytics, Datadog RUM, New Relic Mobile, Sentry) to drive proactive monitoring and operational maturity
  • Cloud: Any major cloud provider (Azure, GCP, or AWS)
