Lead Newsroom Analyst, The Verge
The Verge is seeking a Lead Newsroom Analyst to sit at the intersection of journalism, product, and data, driving the insights that shape how we cover stories, grow our subscriber base, and build better products. They will be accountable for turning performance data into editorial strategy, supporting the planning and optimization of our subscription and paywall programs, and serving as the primary analytics partner for product initiatives across The Verge's digital properties. We are seeking someone who is equally at home in a story pitch meeting and a Looker dashboard and writing SQL in BigQuery, with a strong instinct for what data can and can't tell you, and the editorial judgment to bridge the gap.
This role sits at the center of The Verge's most critical growth priorities, working closely with editors, audience development, product, and business leadership. The ideal candidate is equal parts analyst, strategist, and collaborator, someone who can design a rigorous paywall test, present revenue projections to leadership, and still walk into a desk meeting with a sharp point of view on what stories we should be chasing and why.

Product Analytics
- Serve as the primary analytics partner for product initiatives, owning instrumentation, reporting, and insight generation across The Verge's digital products.
- Define and track product KPIs, building dashboards and writing custom SQL to monitor engagement, retention, and monetization metrics.
- Partner with Product and Engineering on experiment design, A/B test analysis, and data-driven decision-making for features and editorial UX improvements.
- Translate complex product data into clear, actionable recommendations for non-technical stakeholders.
Off-Platform and Product Strategy
- Partner with the audience team to sharpen general off-platform distribution strategy.
- Refine The Verge's Apple News strategy—developing strong pitches, analyzing News+ performance, and identifying areas for growth.
- Support The Verge's newsletter program, identifying opportunities to expand recurring and popup newsletters to improve subscriber growth and retention.
