Lead Occupational Therapist - Pediatrics & Young Adults

Posted Updated
Discussion

Description

Are you an experienced Occupational Therapist ready to step into a leadership role where your clinical skill and collaborative instincts shape not just individual care plans — but an entire therapy team? Home of the Innocents is seeking a Lead Occupational Therapist to oversee and deliver high-quality occupational therapy services at the Kosair for Kids Complex Care Center, our pediatric skilled nursing facility for medically complex children and young adults.
In this role, you'll carry a caseload and lead the OT team — mentoring therapists and COTAs, partnering with the VP of Therapy, and driving the clinical and operational outcomes that improve the lives of our residents every day.

A Day in the Life
Your days are split between the residents and your team. You'll conduct evaluations, implement evidence-based treatment plans, and document progress, while also supervising OTs and COTAs, coordinating with the interdisciplinary team, and contributing to care planning and billing. You might be working through a transportation assessment with one resident, troubleshooting a splint fit with a COTA, and collaborating with nursing on a change-in-condition case within the same day! This is hands-on leadership at its best.
Schedule: Full-time, 30 hours per week. Core hours are Monday – Friday, 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM with flexible scheduling to meet departmental needs. Friday availability is required

How This Position Contributes to Our Mission

Deliver evidence-based occupational therapy services — fine motor development, sensory processing, ADL training, aquatic therapy, assistive technology, and orthotics/splinting — to residents with complex medical needs including enteral feedings, tracheostomies, and ventilator dependency
Conduct comprehensive OT evaluations at admission, following significant changes in condition, upon return from hospitalization, and annually
Supervise Occupational Therapists and COTAs in accordance with licensure requirements, mentoring and supporting them to achieve resident-centered goals
Document OT services in the EMR — progress notes, certifications, MDS assessments, Care Plan contributions, and discharge summaries — and ensure accurate, timely billing
Conduct Resident Transportation Assessments and establish resident-specific transportation plans; train caregivers and guardians on transportation safety
Collaborate with PT, ST, Nursing, and the broader interdisciplinary team to optimize functional outcomes for each resident

Skills and Qualifications
Required:

Master's or Doctoral degree in Occupational Therapy, OR 10 years of experience in the field
Board-certified, unencumbered Occupational Therapist (OT) license in Kentucky
Minimum 1 year of clinical OT experience
National Child Passenger Safety Certification, or ability to obtain within first year of employment
Current CPR/Basic Life Support (BLS) — provided by employer if not current
Strong interpersonal, analytical, and clinical assessment skills
Proficiency with EHR documentation and clinical communication workflows

What You'll Receive as a Valued Member of Home of the Innocents

Comprehensive benefits package (Medical, Dental, Vision, AD&D, and Life)
Generous leave time to ensure work-life balance
401(k) with employer match
Training and certification opportunities
A leadership role with real clinical impact — shaping the care team that serves Kentucky's most medically complex children
