Lead Performance Web Engineer

You will own web performance end to end, including load times, rendering performance, and runtime efficiency. You will define performance architecture, standards, and tooling; optimize rendering and asset delivery; build caching and CDN strategies; instrument performance observability; and establish engineering benchmarks and budgets.

Responsibilities

  • Own web performance end to end, including load times, rendering performance, and runtime efficiency.
  • Define the architecture, standards, and tooling for web performance.
  • Optimize the critical rendering path, including server-side rendering, hydration, code splitting, lazy loading, and asset delivery.
  • Design and maintain browser, CDN, and edge caching architectures.
  • Instrument real user monitoring, Core Web Vitals tracking, and synthetic testing.
  • Establish performance benchmarks, budgets, and standards across engineering.

Requirements

  • Demonstrate deep web performance engineering experience at significant scale serving billions of page loads.
  • Demonstrate expertise in rendering, caching, CDN configuration, bundle optimization, and Core Web Vitals.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in JavaScript and TypeScript.
  • Understand browser engines, the V8 runtime, and the network layer.
  • Demonstrate experience with real user monitoring, synthetic performance testing, and observability systems.
  • Use a rigorous, measurement-driven approach to performance analysis.
  • Demonstrate technical leadership experience.
  • Have experience with Next.js, React, and modern SSR/SSG rendering strategies at scale.
  • Demonstrate familiarity with edge computing, worker runtimes, or CDN-level programmability.
