Lead Performance Web Engineer
You will own web performance end to end, including load times, rendering performance, and runtime efficiency. You will define performance architecture, standards, and tooling; optimize rendering and asset delivery; build caching and CDN strategies; instrument performance observability; and establish engineering benchmarks and budgets.
Responsibilities
- Own web performance end to end, including load times, rendering performance, and runtime efficiency.
- Define the architecture, standards, and tooling for web performance.
- Optimize the critical rendering path, including server-side rendering, hydration, code splitting, lazy loading, and asset delivery.
- Design and maintain browser, CDN, and edge caching architectures.
- Instrument real user monitoring, Core Web Vitals tracking, and synthetic testing.
- Establish performance benchmarks, budgets, and standards across engineering.
Requirements
- Demonstrate deep web performance engineering experience at significant scale serving billions of page loads.
- Demonstrate expertise in rendering, caching, CDN configuration, bundle optimization, and Core Web Vitals.
- Demonstrate proficiency in JavaScript and TypeScript.
- Understand browser engines, the V8 runtime, and the network layer.
- Demonstrate experience with real user monitoring, synthetic performance testing, and observability systems.
- Use a rigorous, measurement-driven approach to performance analysis.
- Demonstrate technical leadership experience.
- Have experience with Next.js, React, and modern SSR/SSG rendering strategies at scale.
- Demonstrate familiarity with edge computing, worker runtimes, or CDN-level programmability.
