Lead Piping Engineer

What is the job about?

  • The service holder will be assigned and involved in the ABSHERON EPSCC Project and will have full responsibility for the PIPING discipline, including the management of all related Contractors for the Onshore Central Process Facility.
  • PIPING discipline gathers piping and valves engineering.
  • Service holder shall strictly adhere to the Company Code of Conduct, Vision, Values and Behaviors, and comply with the Safe System of Working demonstrating full accountability of Safety at all times.
  • Service holder shall ensure Engineering Dossiers and work are delivered with a robust, coherent and traceable PIPING engineering definition, ensuring that all designs are fit to purpose and suitable for procurement, fabrication, transportation, installation, commissioning and safe operation. All deliverables and work shall fully comply with the requirements of Absheron Onshore Package, including all interfacing scopes.
  • Service holder shall provide appropriate engineering support to SITE, including technical clarifications during construction and installation, resolution of SITE queries and non‑conformities, support to commissioning activities, and timely incorporation of SITE feedback and as‑built data.
  • The Service Holder shall ensure that all assigned project PIPING activities are effectively planned, executed, and controlled in accordance with the Project Execution Plan, contractual obligations, and applicable standards, including but not limited to:

Timely, efficient, and high-quality review of PIPING documentation, proactive identification of potential deviations or derogations to standards, and constructive challenge of the design to achieve an optimized, cost-effective, and fit-for-purpose solution and execution of work at Site.

Active participation in and contribution to project reviews, technical studies, workshops, and meetings related to the PIPING discipline, in accordance with project milestones and gate requirements.

Early identification of technical risks, execution risks, and scope variations within the PIPING scope, including performance of impact assessments and provision of clear, structured recommendations to the Onshore Package Technical Manager to support informed decision-making.

Ensuring the availability, competency, and high performance of the PIPING team, in close coordination with the Onshore Package Technical Manager, to meet project objectives and execution delivery commitments.

Your day-to-day activities:

  • Ensure the Engineering Dossier is delivered with a robust engineering definition and a fit‑for‑purpose design that can be procured, fabricated, transported, installed, and operated safely in accordance with the project basis of design and applicable project standards.
  • Lead piping design activities for Onshore Package
  • Undertake Overall responsibility for plant layout development, 3D modeling, and piping routing.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, specifications, and safety requirements.
  • Managing and coordinating interdisciplinary interfaces with civil, process, mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation teams.
  • Review and approve key engineering deliverables (plot plans, piping layouts, isometrics, MTOs).
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to engineers and designers.
  • Support project execution through all detailed engineering to SITE construction, and commissioning support.
  • Participate in design reviews, HAZIDs, HAZOPs, and constructability reviews and identify critical lines (high temperature, large diameter)
  • Manage and coordinate all activities related to follow up of Stress analysis, Piping isometrics, Piping Material Take‑Off (MTO), Support drawings and Tie‑in lists
  • Ensure and coordinate the proper realization of the design in compliance with project standards, specifications, procedures, schedules, and the required levels of quality and safety.
  • Challenge the EPSCC Contractor on the proposed design and oversee the development of specifications and procedures.
  • Identify engineering technical decisions, define and manage a clear way forward for decision‑making, and report progress and outcomes to the Onshore Package Technical Manager Coordinator.
  • Contribute to the proper identification and specification of LLI and ensure close coordination with other disciplines on all engineering, constructability, and operational matters.
  • Ensure that relevant feedback and lessons learned from previous similar projects are fully considered and embedded in the design development.
  • Assist in the planning and preparation of coating discipline kick‑off meetings with the EPSCC Contractor.
  • Provide support to procurement engineering activities, including technical bid evaluations, vendor document reviews, and manufacturing site visits.
  • Provide support to digital and information management activities, including activities related to COMPANY QUALTUM Built-up
  • Provide support to Coating and Corrosion discipline for activities related to coating, painting, thermal insulation, and passive fire protection
  • Assist during fabrication, transportation, and installation phases by liaising with QC resident personnel and site representatives to ensure proper preservation and execution of all coating activities, from surface preparation through repair procedures.
  • Support fabrication and construction engineering through review of engineering documents, approval of modifications, non‑conformity assessments, and assistance with punch list close‑out.
  • Support the project during installation and hookup stages through review and approval of work packs and red‑mark documentation.
  • Perform thorough, efficient, and timely reviews of discipline documents, identify potential deviations from project standards, and challenge the design to achieve an optimized and fit‑for‑purpose outcome.
  • Identify optimization and improvement opportunities within the design dossier at early stages of detailed design and promote value engineering initiatives and promote fit‑for‑purpose design solutions to reduce complexity and optimize planning and costs.
  • Coordinate and issue project responses to contractor and vendor engineering clarification requests and TQRs. Identify potential deviations from project standards and assist in the preparation of deviation packages.
  • Interface with relevant technical approval bodies to secure required approvals.
  • Review final project documentation, including final dossiers and as‑built drawings.
  • Assist with coating qualification activities, project studies, and discipline‑related meetings in line with approved project gate levels and design maturity. Coordinate coating and painting deviation requests.Prepare and manage scopes of work for application tests and coating and painting qualification activities. Oversee the development, qualification, and approval of procedures, and assist with plant qualifications, procedure application tests, and other acceptance testing in close coordination with the QA/QC team.
  • Support the review of relevant inspection and test plans and attend inspections as required. Assist the Package Technical Manager in defining, monitoring, and evaluating studies carried out by contractors, ensuring completion in accordance with approved project gates and maturity levels.
  • Participate in project studies including model reviews, HAZID, HAZOP, constructability reviews, and PRs, and provide technical clarifications during internal audits and reviews.
  • Participate in weekly engineering meetings with contractors and attend ad‑hoc meetings as required by management.
  • Assist in preparing engineering progress reports detailing piping discipline progress, schedule performance, key risks, and technical issues to ensure accurate and timely information for the Package Technical Management Team.
  • Identify potential risks and engineering scope changes associated with the discipline and perform initial technical impact assessments to support the Onshore Package Technical Manager.
  • Ensure the design complies with the approved project basis of design and standards, and that all changes are captured, assessed, and managed in accordance with the established project change management process

Reporting directly to the Onshore Engineering Manager within Onshore Package organization, the role may involve multiple international missions or relocations to support and monitor engineering development with Onshore Package Contractors. The position requires close coordination with Engineering and Site Coordinators to manage PIPING engineering interfaces across disciplines, packages, and TotalEnergies stakeholders.

Professional Experience (years): 15+ years in Oil and Gas projects

Experience in similar position (years): 10+ years at same or equivalent position with managerial responsibilities

Level / Diploma: Engineer,or other

Languages: English mandatory
