Position Summary
Johnson & Johnson MedTech is seeking a Principal Platform Engineer for the Customer Experience Management (CxM) Professional Relations & Operations (PR&O) domain. This role is the hands-on technical leader responsible for translating the PR&O product roadmap into secure, scalable, supportable, and reusable platform capabilities built primarily on Microsoft Dynamics 365 and Microsoft cloud technologies.
The Principal Platform Engineer will lead solution design and engineering execution for PR&O workflows, data, integrations, controls, automation, reporting, and AI-enabled capabilities. The role will work directly with the Senior Manager for the PR&O commercial platform, the Senior Principal Platform Engineer, architects, engineers, control functions, business process owners, and delivery partners.
The role has domain-level engineering accountability for PR&O. The Senior Manager owns product outcomes, roadmap, prioritization, funding, adoption, and value realization. The Senior Principal Platform Engineer owns cross-CxM architecture, shared engineering standards, and platform-wide patterns. This role applies those standards, identifies gaps, and delivers technically sound PR&O capabilities.
Key Accountabilities
1. PR&O solution architecture and engineering
- Translate the PR&O product roadmap and business-process requirements into executable solution designs, technical backlogs, engineering plans, and non-functional requirements.
- Design and guide implementation of PR&O capabilities across Microsoft Dynamics 365, Power Platform, Azure, Microsoft 365, and connected enterprise services.
- Define domain models, extension patterns, data flows, integration contracts, security boundaries, and operational requirements in alignment with the CxM target architecture.
- Make pragmatic engineering trade-offs that support immediate delivery while protecting the long-term maintainability and scalability of the platform.
- Remain sufficiently hands-on to review designs and code, troubleshoot complex issues, validate technical assumptions, and produce reference implementations when needed.
2. Reuse, integration and platform consistency
- Apply cross-CxM engineering standards, reusable services, APIs, frameworks, SDKs, platform components, and approved implementation patterns.
- Identify PR&O requirements that should become shared platform capabilities and partner with the Senior Principal Platform Engineer to prioritize and establish them.
- Prevent unnecessary duplication, custom code, point-to-point integrations, and regional variants when configuration or shared services can meet the need.
- Ensure PR&O capabilities integrate effectively with customer, professional, product, contracting, finance, payment, document, analytics, identity, and adjacent CxM services.
- Document architecture decisions, reusable patterns, interfaces, dependencies, and technical constraints so delivery teams can implement consistently.
3. Risk, compliance, data and secure engineering
- Engineer required privacy, cyber security, records management, auditability, validation, change control, access, retention, and risk controls into PR&O solutions.
- Partner with business and control functions to convert policies and controls into clear technical requirements, evidence, monitoring, and support procedures.
- Establish technical patterns for data quality, ownership, lineage, access, retention, and appropriate use of professional-relations data.
- Ensure solutions meet defined reliability, performance, availability, recoverability, observability, and supportability requirements.
- Raise unclear or conflicting requirements early and drive fact-based resolution without overengineering for speculative future needs.
4. AI, automation and responsible implementation
- Design and implement AI-enabled and automated PR&O capabilities where they produce measurable workflow, quality, or user-experience improvements.
- Apply approved patterns for LLM integration, retrieval-augmented generation, agent orchestration, tool calling, skills, context management, human oversight, evaluation, and observability.
- Work with enterprise AI teams to implement governed execution, security, privacy, monitoring, discoverability, and production operations.
- Use MCP, agent-to-agent, or other interoperability approaches only where approved, supportable, and justified by the use case.
- Ensure AI capabilities preserve human accountability and meet applicable governance, policy, risk, and compliance requirements.
5. Engineering quality and delivery leadership
- Provide technical direction to engineers, contractors, systems integrators, and product squads delivering PR&O capabilities.
- Lead design reviews, code and configuration reviews, technical backlog refinement, release-readiness assessments, and resolution of cross-team dependencies.
- Define and monitor engineering measures for quality, reliability, security, reuse, technical debt, release performance, developer productivity, and production health.
- Improve delivery through automated testing, CI/CD, infrastructure as code, environment standards, observability, documentation, and disciplined release practices.
- Coach engineers and technical leads while creating a culture of accountability, constructive challenge, learning, and continuous improvement.
6. Production engineering and lifecycle management
- Partner with product, support, and operations teams to establish release, change, incident, problem, service, and lifecycle-management practices for PR&O.
- Provide technical leadership during major incidents, restoration, root-cause analysis, and corrective and preventive actions.
- Use production insights to eliminate recurring defects, reduce manual support, improve resilience, and inform platform priorities.
- Ensure technical documentation, monitoring, runbooks, support ownership, continuity plans, and operational-readiness criteria are complete before release.
Measures of Success
- PR&O releases meet approved architecture, security, compliance, quality, operational-readiness, and non-functional requirements.
- Reusable CxM services and patterns are adopted, and unnecessary PR&O-specific customization and point-to-point integration are reduced.
- Engineering risks, dependencies, technical debt, and production issues are visible early and resolved through clear ownership and decisions.
- PR&O capabilities are reliable, observable, supportable, and capable of scaling across global and regional use cases.
- AI and automation capabilities move beyond demonstrations into governed, measurable, production-ready services.
- Product leaders no longer need to mediate routine technical decisions between engineering teams and delivery partners.
Required Qualifications
- 7 or more years of software engineering experience delivering enterprise-scale products, platforms, integrations, or distributed systems.
- 4 or more years as a lead engineer, solution architect, principal engineer, or technical lead accountable for solution design and engineering execution.
- Deep expertise in Microsoft Dynamics 365 architecture, configuration, extensibility, integration, data, security, release management, and platform operations.
- Experience with Microsoft Azure, Power Platform, Microsoft 365, Teams, Outlook, Copilot, and Copilot Studio integrations.
- Experience designing reusable APIs, services, components, frameworks, or integration patterns rather than only standalone applications.
- Hands-on experience with modern engineering practices and tooling, including Git, CI/CD, automated testing, infrastructure as code, containers, Kubernetes, and platform observability.
- Experience designing or implementing production AI solutions using LLM integration, agents, RAG, tool calling, context engineering, evaluation, observability, security, and governance.
- Experience engineering systems in a regulated, security-conscious, or otherwise complex enterprise environment.
- Working understanding of commercial operations, regulated workflows, data controls, and the application of technology to simplify business processes.
- Demonstrated ability to lead engineers and delivery partners through influence, technical credibility, coaching, and clear engineering decisions.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical choices, risks, and trade-offs to product, business, and control stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in MedTech, pharmaceutical, healthcare, or another regulated industry.
- Experience with professional-relations operations, healthcare professional or organization engagement, regulated interactions, or comparable compliance-sensitive workflows.
- Experience integrating Microsoft business platforms with enterprise services operating across Azure and AWS environments.
- Experience building enterprise agent solutions, internal developer capabilities, reusable SDKs, or framework libraries.
- Experience with global platforms that support controlled regional variation.
- For internal candidates, working knowledge of XENA engineering standards, accelerators, AI-enabled SDLC practices, enterprise architecture standards, deployment frameworks, and CI/CD governance. External candidates should demonstrate experience adopting comparable enterprise engineering frameworks and the ability to rapidly learn J&J standards.
