Lead Power Electronics Engineer

NewBe an early applicant

Summary

Lead Power Electronics Engineer who owns the full development lifecycle of power conversion systems (AC/DC, DC/DC, inverters) — from specification, simulation, and prototyping through testing and mass-production support — while mentoring junior engineers. Core tech: converter topologies, power semiconductors (MOSFET, IGBT, GaN, SiC), SPICE/PSIM/PLECS/MATLAB simulation, and PCB design in Altium/Eag

Our client is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Power Electronics Engineer to drive the design, development, and optimization of cutting-edge power electronics solutions for our innovative product range.

What You Will Do

  • Lead the entire power electronics development lifecycle, from concept and specification through design, simulation, prototyping, testing, and mass production support.

  • Architect and design power conversion systems (e.g., AC/DC, DC/DC, inverters) for various applications, focusing on efficiency, power density, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.

  • Conduct detailed circuit analysis, component selection, and worst-case analysis to ensure robust and compliant designs.

  • Perform power loss calculations, thermal analysis, and implement appropriate cooling solutions.

  • Develop and execute comprehensive test plans for power electronics hardware, including functional, performance, reliability, and compliance testing.

  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including mechanical, firmware, and industrial design engineers to integrate power electronics into overall product architecture.

  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior power electronics engineers.

  • Stay abreast of emerging power electronics technologies, industry trends, and regulatory requirements.

  • Manage project timelines, resources, and deliverables for power electronics initiatives.

  • Identify and mitigate technical risks throughout the development process.

    What You Will Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics Engineering, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in power electronics design and development, with at least 3 years in a leadership or senior engineering role.

  • Proven expertise in designing and developing various power converter topologies (e.g., flyback, buck, boost, LLC, resonant converters, PFC).

  • Strong understanding of power semiconductor devices (e.g., MOSFETs, IGBTs, GaN, SiC), their characteristics, and application.

  • Proficiency in power electronics simulation tools (e.g., SPICE, PSIM, PLECS, MATLAB/Simulink).

  • Hands-on experience with PCB design tools (e.g., Altium Designer, Eagle, KiCad)

  • Demonstrated ability to perform detailed thermal management and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) design considerations.

  • Experience with regulatory compliance standards for power electronics (e.g., UL, CE, CCC).

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a strong analytical mindset.

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to lead and collaborate within a multidisciplinary team.

  • Experience in consumer electronics or high-volume manufacturing environments is a plus.
