Lead Product Owner (Insurance)
Summary
The Lead Product Owner manages the insurance and risk management technology backlog, bridging the gap between business stakeholders and technical delivery teams. This role requires extensive experience in Agile methodologies and deep domain knowledge of insurance processes to drive product strategy and solution design.
Salary: £37,000 - 77,000 per year
Requirements:- Bachelors degree in Business, Technology, or a related discipline; Masters preferred
- 12+ years of experience in product ownership, business analysis, or delivery roles
- Strong domain experience in insurance, risk management, or financial services
- Proven experience in backlog management, prioritisation, and product lifecycle ownership
- Strong capability in writing epics, user stories, and acceptance criteria
- Experience facilitating workshops and leading cross-functional stakeholder discussions
- Strong experience working in Agile / Scrum environments
- Exposure to solution architecture or technical design discussions is highly desirable
- Strong understanding of insurance processes, including underwriting, claims, and policy administration
- We lead and guide business analysts and requirements teams, ensuring effective prioritisation of the IRM T-A-T (Technology, Architecture and Transformation) backlog
- We own and manage the product backlog, ensuring prioritisation is aligned with business value, strategic objectives, and our IRM roadmap
- We lead backlog refinement, grooming sessions, sprint planning, and other Agile ceremonies
- We gather, define, and validate business and operational requirements in close collaboration with our IRM stakeholders
- We translate business needs into clear epics, user stories, and well-defined acceptance criteria
- We lead workshops and stakeholder sessions to define scope, clarify requirements, and shape solution direction
- We act as the primary interface between business, architecture, and technology delivery teams
- We contribute to domain architecture discussions, ensuring alignment between business processes, data flows, and target architecture
- We ensure solutions align with our IRM domain models and enterprise architecture principles
- We collaborate closely with architects and engineers to validate solution feasibility and design integrity
- We maintain clear scope definition, requirements traceability, and change control across initiatives
- We validate delivered solutions against business requirements and acceptance criteria
- We ensure compliance with regulatory, risk, and insurance industry requirements across all solutions
- We identify risks, dependencies, and gaps, and proactively drive resolution
- We support UAT, release readiness, and business adoption activities
- We continuously improve product ownership practices, documentation standards, and delivery effectiveness
- We monitor industry, insurance, regulatory, and technology trends to inform roadmap and strategic recommendations
