Lead Python Developer

Salary: £95,000 - 110,000 per year

Requirements:

• Strong commercial Python development experience
• Experience building automation tools, frameworks, or platforms
• Terraform and Infrastructure as Code experience
• Experience with AWS cloud services
• Puppet configuration management experience
• CI/CD and DevOps automation experience
• Passion for engineering best practices, testing, and code quality
• Experience working in cloud and hybrid infrastructure environments

Responsibilities:

• Build automation frameworks and tooling using Python
• Develop Infrastructure as Code solutions with Terraform
• Create reusable templates and code generation platforms using Jinja2
• Automate Windows environments through PowerShell
• Manage and improve configuration management with Puppet
• Build CI/CD integrations for infrastructure delivery
• Work closely with cloud, platform, and engineering teams to improve automation and operational efficiency
• Drive infrastructure standardisation, reliability, and scalability across complex environments

We are hiring a Technical Lead Software Engineer to join a significant government technology programme, helping build secure, large-scale customer platforms used by critical organisations. This is a genuine software engineering-focused role where we build automation frameworks, internal tooling, Infrastructure as Code solutions, and scalable production-quality code to eliminate manual processes. The role is based in London on a hybrid basis with 2 days onsite, and offers a £100k salary plus an 8% bonus, 10% pension, and private medical cover. The interview process is lean and friendly, hosted via MS Teams, with two stages and no external coding tests or presentations. Interviews are taking place in July and August, with start dates available from 0–3 months depending on availability.
