Backend Engineer – Agoda

Responsibilities

Qualifications

• 12+ years of experience developing performance‑critical applications in a production environment using Scala or Java.
• Strong RDBMS knowledge (SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, or other).
• Ability to direct significant company‑wide projects and set technical vision.
• Good command of the English language.
• Deeply involved in making architectural decisions, setting the standard and direction for the team.
• Implement advanced CI/CD pipelines and robust testing strategies to ensure seamless integration, deployment, and high code quality.
• Knowledge in NoSQL, queueing systems (Kafka, RabbitMQ, ActiveMQ, MSMQ), and Play framework.
• Passion for software development and continuous improvement of your knowledge and skills.

Nice to Have

• Machine Learning, GPT, prompt engineering and other AI project experience
• Candidates with JVM language experience – Scala/Java would be preferred

Location: Singapore. This role is based in Singapore. We are unable to offer visa sponsorship for this position, and candidates are expected to have valid work authorization in Singapore.
