Lead Software Engineer - HealthTech (Fullstack or Backend)

We are a mission-driven HealthTech company dedicated to building secure, scalable, and innovative software solutions that improve healthcare outcomes. We are looking for a highly skilled and strategic Lead Software Engineer (Fullstack) to guide our engineering team. In this role, you will be the technical anchor for the team—making high-level architectural decisions, writing clean code, and ensuring our systems meet the strict security and privacy standards required in healthcare.
You will lead the development of our user-facing applications using React and React Native, and architect robust backend systems powered by NestJS and PHP Laravel. Crucially, you will champion a modern engineering workflow where developers act as orchestrators of AI coding assistants, multiplying the team's output. Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership: Lead, mentor, and inspire a cross-functional team of developers. Conduct code reviews, enforce security best practices for patient data, and manage technical debt while ensuring timely feature delivery.
System & Architecture Design: Architect scalable, fault-tolerant, and secure systems tailored for HealthTech (e.g., HIPAA/GDPR compliance considerations). Drive high-level decision-making for backend infrastructure, APIs, and frontend architecture.
Frontend & Mobile Development: Lead the hands-on development, optimization, and deployment of responsive web platforms using React.js and cross-platform mobile applications using React Native.
Backend & API Development: Design, build, and oversee the implementation of secure and highly efficient RESTful APIs using our core backend stack of NestJS or PHP Laravel.
Database Architecture: Design, optimize, and scale data models using both SQL (e.g., PostgreSQL/MySQL) and NoSQL (e.g., MongoDB) databases based on complex healthcare data requirements.
Technical Documentation: Translate complex business requirements into clear technical documentation. Create and maintain hands-on technical diagrams - such as Sequence Diagrams, Architecture Diagrams, and ERDs - to ensure total team alignment before coding begins.
AI as a Coding Co-Worker (Orchestration): Act as the "orchestrator" directing AI tools (like Claude Code, Cursor, or GitHub Copilot) acting as the "worker." You will design the system architecture, write highly specific prompts to direct AI agents, orchestrate complex refactoring, and critically review AI-generated code for security, logic, and performance before merging.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Experience: 8+ years of experience in fullstack software engineering, with at least 3+ years in a leadership, technical lead, or architectural role.
Backend Expertise: Strong, production-level proficiency in both NestJS (Node.js) or PHP (Laravel) for building enterprise-grade backend services.
Frontend & Mobile Expertise: Proven, hands-on experience building and deploying production-grade web and mobile applications using React.js and React Native.
System Design: Strong grasp of system design principles, microservices architecture, API gateways, and distributed systems.
Database Design: Advanced knowledge of database design, indexing, optimization, and querying across both SQL and NoSQL environments.
Visual Communication: Hands-on ability to map out complex logic and system behaviors using technical diagramming tools (UML, Sequence Diagrams, etc.).
AI Orchestration Skills: Hands-on experience utilizing AI coding assistants beyond simple autocomplete. You know how to break down complex tickets into actionable AI prompts, guide an AI agent through a multi-step coding task, and rigorously validate its output.
Security Mindset: Understanding of data security principles, encryption, and safe data handling practices.
Nice to Have
Prior experience working in the HealthTech industry or familiarity with healthcare compliance standards (HIPAA, HL7, FHIR, GDPR).
Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
