Lead Software Engineer

About the role

The Role We are looking for a Lead Software Engineer who loves the balance between high-level system design and hands-on coding. In this role, you will split your time 50/50 between two critical areas:

  1. Upstream Architecture (50%): You will act as the technical anchor in a multidisciplinary triad alongside Product Managers and Product Owners. You will translate Product Requirements Documents (PRDs) into comprehensive Technical Design Documents (TDDs), defining the architecture, assessing feasibility, and providing the estimates that shape our roadmap.
  2. Hands-On Execution (50%): You won't just design systems and hand them off. You will embed with one of our four Scrum teams as an active developer. You will help the team break your TDDs down into actionable user stories, write production-ready code in Java/Kotlin, and mentor the team through code reviews and technical hurdles.

Key Responsabilities

  • Architect & Design: Lead the technical design of new commercial cloud products, creating highly scalable, secure, and resilient microservices architectures on AWS.
  • Collaborate Upstream: Partner directly with Product Management to evaluate PRDs, identify technical trade-offs, and establish concrete TDDs.
  • Build & Code: Spend half your time in the trenches with your Scrum team, contributing high-quality, maintainable code across our stack (Java, Kotlin, Angular).
  • Lead the Breakdown: Guide developers in translating high-level TDDs into well-scoped user stories and sprint deliverables.
  • Mentor & Elevate: Raise the technical bar for the team through code reviews, pairing, and establishing engineering best practices.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Deep Technical Expertise: Extensive experience building highly scalable microservices using Java and/or Kotlin.
  • Cloud Native: Proven experience designing and deploying distributed systems.
  • Database Mastery: Strong working knowledge of both relational (PostgreSQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB) databases.
  • Full-Stack Awareness: While the heavy lifting is in the backend/cloud, you should have experience or comfort working with frontend frameworks like Angular.
  • Architectural Chops: A track record of writing clear technical design documents, architectural proposals, or RFCs.
  • Agile Leadership: Experience working in a Scrum environment and a knack for breaking down complex architectural epics into digestible developer tasks.
  • Communication Skills: You can explain complex technical constraints to a Product Manager just as easily as you can explain a design pattern to a junior developer.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Domain Knowledge: Familiarity with the healthcare technology sector, highly regulated environments, SaaS platforms, or sleep diagnostics.
  • CI/CD Pipelines: Experience or familiarity with continuous integration/continuous deployment processes.

Why Join us?

  • Impact: Contribute to life-changing solutions that significantly improve patient outcomes and make a real difference in the field of sleep medicine.
  • Growth: Be part of a dynamic company in a major growth phase, offering unparalleled opportunities for career advancement and professional development.
  • Innovation: Work in a forward-thinking environment where your ideas, technical expertise, and contributions will be highly valued and recognized.
  • Collaboration: Join a global team of passionate innovators, doctors, and technologists dedicated to making a difference in healthcare through technology.
