Hands-on lead engineer at SENSAiO's Penang technical center, designing and building the company's industrial IoT software platform — device data pipelines, backend APIs, Angular web and Ionic mobile apps, cloud infra, and AI/analytics — while mentoring and growing a new Malaysian engineering team alongside the CTO.
Salary: RM 12,000 – RM 18,000 per month
About the role
Lead Software Engineer role at SENSAiO's Malaysia Technical Center in Penang. This is a hands-on player-coach role in an international technology company. You will spend most of your time designing and writing production software while progressively taking technical ownership of SENSAiO's software platform and helping build the Malaysian engineering team. You will work directly with the CTO and collaborate daily with firmware and hardware engineers in France and company leadership in Singapore. This role sits at the intersection of cloud software, industrial IoT, web/mobile applications, data and AI.
Key responsibilities
Own and evolve the software platform, including IoT device data pipelines, backend services and APIs, time-series data processing, web and mobile applications, cloud infrastructure and integrations, and monitoring, diagnostics and fleet-management capabilities
Turn raw sensor data into reliable, actionable information for industrial users
Develop and maintain Angular web platform and Ionic cross-platform mobile application used by customers and field engineers for sensor commissioning, BLE configuration and diagnostics, device monitoring, fleet management, troubleshooting and maintenance
Work closely with embedded firmware engineers on end-to-end device-to-cloud architecture, including LoRaWAN payloads and connectivity, BLE tooling, device provisioning, OTA/DFU workflows, fleet diagnostics, and security and device lifecycle management
Work with the engineering team to industrialize AI and data-driven functionality across the SENSAiO platform, including time-series analytics and anomaly detection, vibration and acoustic classification, predictive diagnostics, edge AI / TinyML deployment, and integration of ML models into production applications
Own software quality end-to-end through architecture and design reviews, code reviews, automated testing, CI/CD, observability, documentation and release management
Recruit software engineers, mentor junior and mid-level developers, establish engineering practices, make architecture and tooling decisions, and develop the local engineering culture
Contribute directly to SENSAiO's technology roadmap alongside the CTO
About you
7+ years of professional software engineering experience
At least 2 years leading technical projects, mentoring engineers or working as a technical lead
Strong software architecture and engineering fundamentals
Solid backend engineering experience using technologies such as Node.js/TypeScript, Python, Go or Java
Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure or GCP
Experience with containers, automated testing and CI/CD
Experience building data-intensive applications, APIs or data pipelines
Strong understanding of SQL and modern data architectures
Good written and spoken English and ability to collaborate across countries and time zones
Experience with modern TypeScript frontend development, including Angular, TypeScript, RxJS and Ionic
