Job Description
The Lead Structural Engineer will provide technical leadership for the structural engineering department while overseeing structural design, project execution, and engineering quality for heavy industrial projects. This role will supervise project design efforts, manage engineering staff, review and stamp structural drawings, and collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to successfully deliver projects.
Primary responsibilities include:
  • Lead the structural engineering department and provide technical direction to engineers and designers.
  • Develop project work plans and oversee structural engineering deliverables.
  • Perform field inspections to verify existing plant conditions.
  • Design steel and concrete structures supporting heavy industrial equipment.
  • Develop structural concepts for equipment installations and facility modifications.
  • Coordinate with civil, mechanical, piping, electrical, and process engineering disciplines.
  • Review structural calculations, drawings, and specifications for quality and code compliance.
  • Stamp structural drawings for projects in Alabama, Florida, and Georgia.
  • Manage workloads, mentor engineering staff, and conduct annual performance reviews.
  • Lead scope development and coordinate directly with clients throughout project execution.
  • Develop engineering estimates, bid packages, and procurement documentation.
  • Coordinate procurement, construction activities, project safety, scheduling, and startup support.
  • Maintain project documentation and oversee project closeout activities.
  • Participate in client meetings, site walkdowns, and business development initiatives.
  • Develop engineering proposals and support project pursuits.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Active Professional Engineer (P.E.) license (preferred in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, or Mississippi).
  • Experience leading structural engineering teams on heavy industrial projects.
  • Strong structural design experience involving steel and reinforced concrete.
  • Experience designing foundations and support structures for heavy rotating equipment.
  • Experience in heavy industrial industries such as:
    • Pulp & Paper
    • Power Generation
    • Chemical Processing
    • Cement
    • Steel Manufacturing
  • Ability to perform structural calculations and review engineering drawings.
  • Experience conducting field investigations and existing condition assessments.
  • Strong knowledge of applicable structural design codes and standards.
  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary engineering projects.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and client relationship skills.
  • Willingness to travel to client sites as needed.
