Lead Technical Architect

Summary

Lead technical architecture and modernization for a Line of Business at Qatar Airways, defining blueprints and driving adoption of cloud (Azure, GCP), DevSecOps, SRE, and AI practices to enable digital transformation.

About the Role

In this role, you will lead technology modernization and digital transformation initiatives for an assigned Line of Business, shaping technology roadmaps and architectural blueprints that enable innovation, business automation, and operational efficiency. Your leadership will ensure technology investments are aligned with enterprise standards and deliver scalable, resilient, and cost-effective solutions.

You will drive the adoption of AI, cloud, and DevSecOps practices while ensuring security, compliance, and Non-Functional Requirements (NFRs) are embedded across all solutions. By proactively managing technology risks and guiding strategic technology decisions, you will enable the organization to deliver secure, future-ready digital capabilities that meet evolving business needs.

Your duties would include:

  • Define and govern the technical blueprint and target-state architecture for the Line of Business (LOB), ensuring alignment with the enterprise technology roadmap, cloud strategy, security standards, and modernization objectives. Ensure all delivery initiatives adhere to the approved blueprint.

  • Provide strategic leadership in Platform Engineering, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), DevSecOps, Cloud Engineering, AI adoption, and Enterprise Architecture, establishing standards, reference architectures, and engineering best practices.

  • Collaborate with Enterprise Architects, Principal Architects, and cross-functional technology leaders to drive standardization, reuse of platforms, common technology capabilities, and enterprise-wide engineering synergies.

  • Lead the design and implementation of cloud-native, resilient, scalable, and secure architectures across Azure, GCP, hybrid-cloud, and on-premises environments, ensuring optimal performance, availability, and cost efficiency.

  • Establish and govern SRE practices, including Service Level Objectives (SLOs), Service Level Indicators (SLIs), error budgets, reliability engineering standards, resilience testing, capacity planning, disaster recovery, and production readiness governance.

  • Drive adoption of DevSecOps practices by embedding security, quality, compliance, and operational controls throughout the software delivery lifecycle, including automated security scanning, vulnerability management, secrets management, and policy enforcement.

  • Define and govern enterprise CI/CD, Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC), GitOps, test automation, release automation, and deployment pipeline standards to improve delivery velocity, quality, repeatability, and operational stability.

  • Lead the evaluation, selection, standardization, and governance of software engineering and DevOps platforms, including tools such as GitHub, GitHub Copilot, Azure DevOps, SonarQube, Sonatype Nexus/IQ, Dynatrace, Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, security scanning tools, and AI-powered engineering platforms.

  • Establish engineering quality gates and governance frameworks covering code quality, technical debt management, dependency management, software supply chain security, architectural compliance, and release readiness.

  • Define and oversee AI governance frameworks, ensuring responsible adoption of AI technologies, AI-assisted development, secure usage of Generative AI tools, compliance, risk management, data protection, model governance, and engineering productivity measurement.

  • Lead Proof of Concepts (PoCs), technical evaluations, and innovation initiatives involving emerging technologies, cloud services, AI capabilities, observability platforms, automation solutions, and modern engineering practices. Ensure rapid validation and fail-fast execution where appropriate.

  • Architect and govern comprehensive observability and monitoring solutions leveraging technologies such as Dynatrace, Prometheus, Grafana, Azure Monitor, OpenTelemetry, and centralized logging platforms to provide end-to-end visibility across applications, platforms, APIs, integrations, and AI workloads.

  • Establish and maintain an enterprise-wide Non-Functional Requirements (NFR) framework covering availability, reliability, resiliency, performance, scalability, security, observability, maintainability, auditability, recoverability, sustainability, and operational excellence.

  • Define measurable NFR KPIs, SLAs, SLOs, and reliability metrics for critical business applications, digital channels, integration platforms, cloud services, data platforms, and AI-enabled workloads.

  • Oversee architecture reviews and technical assurance activities, ensuring solution artefacts, designs, integrations, and implementation approaches comply with enterprise architecture, security, DevSecOps, and operational excellence standards.

  • Ensure all applications undergo rigorous performance engineering, resilience validation, security testing, observability readiness, and production readiness assessments prior to deployment.
  • Partner closely with Cyber Security and Governance teams to continuously enhance enterprise security standards, secure engineering practices, threat mitigation strategies, software supply chain security controls, and regulatory compliance requirements.

  • Lead technical governance for production environments, including incident management, problem management, root cause analysis, reliability improvements, post-incident reviews, and implementation of corrective and preventive actions.

  • Establish proactive monitoring, capacity planning, performance optimization, and operational analytics frameworks to ensure early detection and remediation of service degradation, vulnerabilities, and operational risks.

  • Collaborate with third-party vendors, cloud providers, and internal technology teams to design, implement, and govern robust enterprise integrations, APIs, event-driven architectures, and platform services.

  • Conduct enterprise application portfolio assessments and define modernization roadmaps, including cloud migration, platform consolidation, re-platforming, application rationalization, technical debt reduction, and retirement strategies.

  • Drive technology innovation and continuous improvement by leveraging automation, AI, cloud capabilities, developer productivity platforms, self-service engineering capabilities, and modern software engineering practices.

  • Build and mentor a high-performing architecture and engineering community by developing architects, engineering leads, DevOps engineers, platform engineers, and SRE practitioners, enabling them to lead enterprise-wide transformation initiatives independently.

  • Champion engineering excellence through the establishment of standards, communities of practice, architectural governance frameworks, reusable platforms, reference implementations, and enterprise-wide best practices.
