Summary
Lead the architecture and development of Sedgwick’s enterprise web CMS, building reusable, accessible components and themes to scale content delivery while ensuring performance and WCAG 2.1 AA compliance.
Role Description
The Lead Web Front-end Engineer is responsible for building and evolving Sedgwick’s enterprise web content management system with a primary focus on theme architecture, reusable components, accessibility, and performance. This role leverages modular systems to deliver consistency, structured customization, and flexibility at scale.
As a member of our Web team, the Lead Web Front-end Engineer partners closely with the web team members, UX/UI Designers, Analytics, and DevOps stakeholders to ensure the site remains performant, accessible, scalable, and resilient as our business grows and thereby with it, content volume and complexity scales.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Web Development, Digital Media, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering or a related technical field from an accredited college or university preferred; equivalent practical experience in front-end engineering, enterprise CMS architecture, accessibility, and performance optimization may be considered in lieu of formal education.
- Eight (8) years of professional front-end development experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
- Demonstrated experience building custom website themes, block systems, and reusable component libraries within enterprise-scale content platforms (WordPress preferred).
- Proven experience delivering accessible, high-performance front-end experiences while supporting campaign-driven websites and collaborating with DevOps or platform teams in a CI/CD environment.
- Deep expertise in HTML, CSS, and modern JavaScript.
- Strong knowledge of component-based front-end development patterns and modular design systems.
- Solid understanding of Core Web Vitals and Lighthouse performance metrics.
- Working knowledge of accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1 AA) and inclusive design best practices.
- Ability to work independently while providing technical leadership and guidance to the web marketing team.
- Knowledge of SEO fundamentals and digital analytics platforms (Google Analytics) a plus.
- Exposure to international or multilingual website implementations.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, matrixed environment.
Requirements
- Develops and manages the web content management system theme architecture, block systems, and component library.
- Develops and maintains reusable, standards-based components that support campaign landing pages, evergreen content, and international content.
- Ensures front-end implementations scale cleanly as content volume increases.
- Partners closely with UX/UI designers to bring page designs to life.
- Builds front end experiences that meet Core Web Vitals and Lighthouse performance targets.
- Optimizes rendering, image handling, script loading, and layout stability.
- Partners with Analytics stakeholders to respond to performance regressions and prevent recurrence through improved patterns and guardrails.
- Ensures compliance with all frontend work meeting WCAG 2.1 AA standards.
- Embeds accessibility best practices into component design and development workflows.
- Validates compliance and remediates issues early in the development lifecycle.
- Collaborates with Web Producers to ensure components are easy to use, hard to misuse, and consistent with brand and UX standards.
- Provides technical guidance to internal and external partners both verbal and written.
- Reviews frontend contributions from external partners to ensure adherence to platform standards.
- Ensures release readiness by assessing front-end changes for performance and accessibility risk.
- Partners with the Web Platform Engineer on CI/CD coordination.
- Contributes to platform documentation, standards, and front-end components.
