Learning Designer

Role purpose

Design learner-centred and accessible learning experiences that translate source content, client requirements and subject matter expertise into structured learning resources and digital storyboards.

Key responsibilities

  • Analyse project requirements, learner cohorts, source materials and intended outcomes.
  • Design coherent learning structures, sequences and learner journeys.
  • Develop learning-design storyboards for Rise, Storyline, H5P, video and other formats.
  • Write learning content, instructions, activities, scenarios, knowledge checks and feedback.
  • Apply adult learning principles, Universal Design for Learning and accessibility-first practices.
  • Transform complex or technical information into clear, usable learning content.
  • Recommend suitable interactions, media and visual treatments.
  • Communicate visual and multimedia requirements to production specialists.
  • Review digital builds for alignment with the approved storyboard and learning intent.
  • Work constructively with subject matter experts and incorporate review feedback.
  • Conduct content, consistency and educational-design self-checks.
  • Maintain accurate, organised and review-ready source documents.

Essential requirements

  • Demonstrated learning-design or instructional-development experience.
  • Strong understanding of adult learning and learner-centred design.
  • Strong written English, editing and content-structuring capability.
  • Experience preparing detailed digital learning storyboards.
  • Ability to design meaningful activities, scenarios and feedback.
  • Ability to interpret and synthesise complex source material.
  • Baseline visual and information-design capability.
  • Understanding of accessibility and inclusive learning design.
  • Strong stakeholder collaboration and feedback-management skills.
  • High attention to accuracy, consistency and detail.

Desirable requirements

  • Qualification in education, learning design, instructional design or a related field.
  • Experience in VET, government, compliance or workplace learning.
  • Familiarity with competency-based education and training products.
  • Experience with Rise, Storyline, H5P or an LMS.
  • Experience writing scripts for animation, video or voice-over.
  • Understanding of WCAG 2.1 or 2.2 Level AA.
  • Experience applying approved AI tools to research, ideation, drafting or quality checking.
