Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Physiology/Biomedical Science

We are seeking a motivated and ambitious academic at the Lecturer or Senior Lecturer level to join our dynamic department. In this role, you will significantly contribute to the Department’s and School’s academic and research programmes, including mentoring the next generation of biomedical leaders, driving high-impact funding and research initiatives, and contributing to a culture of academic excellence and equity. You will teach into the University's new Bachelor of Biomedical Science degree, the Physiology major, and the Medical programme, delivering high-quality undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.

You will hold a PhD in physiology or a closely related biomedical discipline. You will be expected to establish an independent, high-impact research program that complements and expands departmental strengths. In line with evolving national science funding priorities, we also welcome candidates who demonstrate an interest or track record in research translation, commercialisation, industry engagement, or clinical collaboration. The successful candidate will be a collaborative scholar capable of building interdisciplinary networks, securing contestable grant funding, supervising postgraduate research students, and engaging with broader community and health stakeholders.

This is a fulltime (40h per week) permanent position. The salary range for this role is as follows (skills and experience dependent):

Lecturer: $99,788 - $119,204

Senior Lecturer: $126,863 - $158,904

He kōrero mōu | About you

You will hold a PhD in Physiology or a closely related biomedical discipline and have an established or emerging track record in research aligned with physiology, biomedical science, or a related field. You will be able to demonstrate research outputs appropriate to your career stage, along with the potential to develop and sustain an independent research programme.

You will be committed to delivering high-quality teaching and supporting student success across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. Experience teaching in physiology, biomedical science, neuroscience, or related disciplines, and supervising postgraduate students, will be advantageous.

Our ideal candidate will bring:

• A track record of research achievement
• Evidence of, or potential for, securing competitive research funding.
• Experience supervising or mentoring postgraduate research students.
• The ability to contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• A collaborative approach and interest in interdisciplinary research.
• Experience or interest in research translation, commercialisation, industry engagement, or clinical collaboration.
