Lecturer, Taxation and Accounting

Discussion
Lyceum College (Pty) Ltd is a private higher education institution registered with the Department of Higher Education and Training, offering CHE accredited distance learning qualifications across South Africa.

About the Role

The Lecturer, Taxation and Accounting is central to the delivery of high-quality tax and accounting education to distance students at NQF Levels 5 to 7. The role brings current South African tax legislation, IFRS principles, and accounting practice into the ‘virtual lecture hall’ for students balancing study with full-time work, and carries genuine influence over how the curriculum evolves rather than simply delivering existing material.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver engaging, current course material and assessments reflecting South African tax legislation, IFRS, and accounting practice

  • Provide direct academic support through consultations, mentorship, and a minimum of five hours a week at the Writing Centre, including identifying and supporting at-risk students

  • Design assessments aligned to programme learning outcomes and provide constructive, actionable feedback

  • Keep course content current as tax legislation, accounting standards, and accreditation requirements evolve

  • Contribute to faculty governance and curriculum review, with real input into how the programme develops

Requirements

What We're Looking For

  • A Master’s degree in Accounting, Taxation, or a closely related field, with a proven record as a subject matter expert; a PhD is advantageous

  • Professional registration with SAICA, SAIPA, or SAIT is advantageous

  • A minimum of three years’ lecturing experience in Accounting and/or Taxation in higher education, including experience teaching at NQF Levels 5, 6, and 7

  • Experience in a distance learning environment

  • Experience in assessment setting and moderation
