Legal and Trade Control Compliance Officer

Job Summary

The successful candidate will support security trade control compliance, business contract matters, dispute management, and corporate compliance programs, collaborating closely with Headquarters in Kyoto to align with group policies and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Manage contract-related matters by reviewing non-disclosure agreements, commercial agreements, and other business contracts to ensure compliance and maintain accurate contract records
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to support and resolve legal disputes effectively
  • Oversee corporate compliance programs, including anti-trust and anti-bribery requirements, and deliver regular legal and compliance training to employees and affiliates in Southeast Asia
  • Administer Personal Data Protection responsibilities by conducting regular PDPA assessments to identify gaps and mitigate data protection risks
  • Support implementation and management of security trade control requirements across the Southeast Asia region to ensure regulatory compliance
  • Manage end-user list notifications, verification processes, and follow-up actions to maintain export control integrity
  • Administer export control processes in SAP, including material creation, classification, manufacturer confirmation, and export license release after HQ approval and background checks
  • Consult with HQ Legal and Export Control teams for transactions involving concerned countries or military-related organizations to obtain necessary approvals
  • Conduct regular training and communicate security trade control updates to employees, especially sales teams, to promote compliant business transactions
  • Prepare and submit annual sales reports to Headquarters and participate in Global and Asia Export Control meetings as required

Required competencies and certifications

  • Degree or diploma in legal studies, international business, business administration, supply chain management, or equivalent
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience handling trade compliance, customs compliance, or international trade regulations
  • Experience working in law firms or in-house legal teams with business contract review and management
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite basic functionalities
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to address compliance and legal challenges
  • Effective communication skills to liaise with stakeholders and conduct training
  • Ability to multitask, self-motivate, and manage time efficiently
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills to maintain compliance records and processes

Preferred competencies and qualifications

  • Awareness of geopolitical developments and their impact on international trade
