Legal & Compliance Lead/Manager drafts and negotiates commodity trading contracts, advises on trade finance and maritime disputes, and ensures AML/KYC compliance for a global energy trading firm in Singapore.
A leading international energy and commodities trading company, backed by a well-established refining group, is looking to appoint a Legal & Compliance Lead/Manager to join its Singapore trading hub.
This is an excellent opportunity for a legal professional with experience in physical commodities, energy trading, or oil & gas to play a strategic role supporting international trading activities across Asia.
Responsibilities:
- Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial contracts for physical commodity trading.
- Supporting derivatives and paper trading agreements, including ISDA and related documentation.
- Advising on shipping, logistics, charterparties, bills of lading, demurrage claims, and maritime disputes.
- Managing KYC, AML, sanctions screening, and counterparty due diligence processes.
- Providing legal support on trade finance matters, including letters of credit, guarantees, and banking documentation.
- Handling commercial disputes, arbitration, and litigation matters where required.
- Reviewing and strengthening compliance policies, governance frameworks, and internal controls.
Requirements:
- A Law degree (LL.B., LL.M., or J.D.), with admission to the Bar in Singapore, UK, China, or other Common Law jurisdictions is highly preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of legal and compliance experience within commodity trading, energy, oil & gas, petrochemicals, or a specialist maritime/energy law firm.
- Strong knowledge of international trade law, shipping, sanctions, AML, and commodity trading documentation.
- Experience supporting physical commodities and trade finance transactions.
- Excellent commercial judgement and the ability to work in a fast-paced international trading environment.
- Fluency in both English and Mandarin to support communication with regional stakeholders and headquarters.
