Legal Counsel
Our company, listed on the Nasdaq as MOMO, has its regional headquarters established in Singapore and we are looking to fill several key roles in our organization. This is an exciting time to make an impact and be at the frontline of our company's growth.
We are looking for a Legal Counsel to oversee and manage legal and corporate secretarial operations. As this is a sole contributor role, he/she is expected to possess substantial experience and relevant exposure handling cross-border transactional commercial agreements in the SEA and MENA region. The ideal Legal Counsel shall be the company's point of contact for all legal matters arising from the company's business activities, including but not limited to: incorporation, leasing agreements, employment law, tax, commercial contracts, IP and data privacy.
Based out of the Singapore office and reporting to the Regional Director, the successful candidate will also play a key role in advising on a broad range of legal matters, such as data privacy, procurement, and intellectual property licensing, to support the group's international operations. Day-to-day scope of work will include but is not limited to drafting, negotiating and reviewing commercial contracts, advising on commercial dispute resolution, employment matters, as well as other general corporate matters; and managing corporate secretarial and regulatory compliance across the group's entities.
Description
Risk Management. Design and implement company policies and provide strategic advice to Singapore senior management
Compliance. Establish and ensure adherence to audit requirements, health and safety policies, and employment law
Contract management. Draft, review, and negotiate contracts for both external and internal use
Corporate Secretarial & Entity Governance. Manage the corporate secretarial function across the group's various entities; oversee the incorporation of new entities and their ongoing compliance, including statutory filings and the appointment or removal of directors
Regulatory Compliance (Overseas Operations). Ensure the group's overseas businesses comply with applicable local regulatory laws, and conduct regular compliance reviews across jurisdictions
Lead the review of new products, product features, and other product-related matters to ensure compliance with privacy and data protection laws
Coordinate with Beijing and the International Legal team to perform multi-jurisdictional assessments in line with Group interests
Coordinate internal communication, projects, and training across teams (legal, data security, information security, product, business development, monetization, and regional teams)
Provide support on other company initiatives as needed (new technology implementation, internal policies, and data security efforts)
Monitor privacy and regulatory trends across markets to identify issues for the company to address
Provide legal support to internal business teams for KYC-related documentation and submissions.
Requirements
Qualified to practice law and in good standing in Singapore, the US, UK, another common law jurisdiction, or an EU member state
More than 3 years' post-qualification experience, including at least 1 year in commercial law and international contracts
Experience in corporate secretarial and entity management matters across multiple jurisdictions
Preferably experience in-house in a technology multinational corporation
Experience — and, more importantly, genuine interest — in technology, social networks, internet, and all things digital
Detail-oriented, with the ability to coordinate across multiple teams and countries
Strong problem-solving ability and a proactive work ethic
Determination to take on tough challenges in a fast-paced environment, while keeping a sense of humor
Good Mandarin comprehension and communication are a must, as the role requires close communication with Chinese stakeholders and colleagues
