Legal Counsel

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Legal Counsel based in United States.

This role offers the opportunity to provide strategic legal guidance within a fast-growing financial technology environment.
You will help shape innovative financial products and services while navigating complex and evolving regulatory requirements.
Working closely with Product, Brokerage, Crypto, Compliance, AML, Sales, and Customer Success teams, you will serve as a practical legal partner to the business.
Your expertise will support product launches, regulatory engagement, commercial activities, policies, and risk management.
You will monitor developments across U.S. financial regulators and translate emerging requirements into actionable business guidance.
The position also offers exposure to digital assets, payments, data privacy, disputes, and other rapidly evolving areas of financial services.

• Provide practical, business-oriented legal advice on complex regulatory frameworks affecting financial products and services.
• Lead legal reviews of product designs, marketing initiatives, and customer onboarding processes, balancing regulatory compliance with commercial objectives.
• Advise internal stakeholders on new and anticipated legal requirements, regulatory guidance, and their implications for systems, policies, and procedures.
• Monitor regulatory developments from key governmental agencies and self-regulatory organizations, including the SEC, FINRA, CFTC, FinCEN, and OFAC.
• Support regulatory engagement and communications with relevant agencies and authorities.
• Provide legal support across digital assets, payments, data privacy, and other emerging financial services areas as business needs evolve.
• Draft and review agreements, disclosures, policies, procedures, and other legal documentation.
• Conduct legal research and analysis on novel or complex questions and translate findings into clear, actionable recommendations.
• Manage litigation, arbitration, and other disputes, including developing case strategy, coordinating with external counsel, responding to claims and discovery, and advising stakeholders on risk and resolution options.
• Partner closely with Product, Brokerage, Crypto, Compliance, Anti-Money Laundering, Sales, and Customer Success teams to address legal and regulatory considerations.
• Help the organization manage legal risk while enabling innovation, growth, and the responsible launch of new products and services.

Requirements

• J.D. degree or foreign equivalent and active membership in at least one U.S. state bar.
• 5–7+ years of legal experience, including at least 3 years focused on U.S. broker-dealer regulation.
• Strong knowledge of the Securities Exchange Act of 1934, related regulations and rules, FINRA requirements, and other applicable federal and state securities laws.
• Familiarity with U.S. cryptoasset regulatory frameworks and relevant requirements involving the SEC, CFTC, NYDFS, FinCEN, and anti-money laundering regulations.
• Proven experience advising fintech companies, financial institutions, or similarly regulated organizations, preferably within a startup or growth-stage environment.
• Demonstrated ability to provide strategic, commercially focused legal advice while working under tight deadlines.
• Strong legal research, analytical, drafting, and problem-solving capabilities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex legal matters clearly to non-legal stakeholders.
• Strong professional judgment, self-motivation, and the ability to operate independently while managing multiple priorities.
• Comfortable working with ambiguity, evolving regulations, and rapidly changing business requirements.
• Collaborative and pragmatic approach, with the ability to build effective relationships across technical, commercial, operational, and compliance functions.
• Growth mindset and genuine interest in emerging areas of financial technology, digital assets, payments, and regulatory innovation.
