Summary

Legal Counsel at Ohme drafts and negotiates commercial contracts, advises on data protection and SaaS agreements, and supports global legal operations for a cleantech company focused on residential EV charging.

Ohme is on a mission to accelerate the global transition to clean, affordable energy. We do that by serving as an integrated hardware and software smart-grid platform, focused on the residential EV charging market.

The worlds of energy, transport and artificial intelligence are colliding and Ohme is at the heart of this new era. By using technology and data integrations to connect cars, chargers, people, energy providers and more, Ohme has a powerful platform that puts the consumer at the core.

Ohme has been selling its chargers to consumers since mid 2019 and has had exponential growth since. We are now operating in multiple countries and have partnerships with the likes of VW, Mercedes, Octopus Energy, and other innovative brands.

We are scaling up the business and are building out the team for rapid growth. If you’re interested joining a fast-growing cleantech venture on a data and AI-first journey to speed up the global transition to clean, affordable energy, read on!

Ohme is looking for a technically strong and commercially minded Legal Counsel with 3-8 years PQE to join a dynamic and growing legal team. Legal at Ohme is not a back-office compliance function. We are embedded in the business as trusted partners, working alongside sales, engineering and commercial teams to help drive outcomes. Reporting directly to the Group General Counsel, you will play a crucial role in a fast-paced, innovative tech firm. You will sit within a close-knit, high-performing team of four lawyers, all with ex-US firm backgrounds, operating to top level standards within a fast-scaling international business. The Group's legal team is based in London and manages Ohme's worldwide legal operations across the UK, Europe, South America and Australia.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drafting and negotiating a range of commercial contracts including wholesale and other sales agreements
  • Advising on Privacy and Data Protection matters for the Group
  • Reviewing and advising on risks in supplier contracts
  • Drafting and negotiating NDAs; advising on SaaS agreements
  • Acting as a genuine business partner to sales, marketing, engineering and customer care - embedded in deals and decisions, not just reviewing them after the fact
  • Managing consultancy agreements and employment legal support

  • Delivering company training and providing compliance support (policies, legal updates)
  • Assisting with corporate matters (board/shareholder resolutions and company secretary)

What We're Looking For

  • Sound commercial judgement, with the ability to give pragmatic, risk-proportionate advice rather than purely academic legal analysis
  • A hands-on lawyer who is comfortable getting into the detail and doing the work themselves and who enjoys expanding their legal and commercial knowledge and skills
  • A track record of excellence and a drive to operate at the highest professional standard, thriving in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong drafting and negotiation experience is required to be successful in this role. Excellent knowledge of contract law is essential. Privacy/GDPR experience is beneficial
  • Experience of advising on cross-border/multinational transactions or knowledge of business operations in another country is beneficial
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work independently
  • Confidence working across all levels of the business
  • A team player willing to pitch in and support colleagues
  • Additional European language skills is a plus
  • In-house experience is beneficial but not essential

Why Ohme?

  • Work in a progressive and innovative tech firm at the forefront of energy transition
  • Join a collegiate legal team with genuinely high-quality work and opportunities.
  • You will be trusted to own and negotiate material contracts for Ohme directly - genuine autonomy and responsibility and not just supporting drafting under sign-off
  • The team is growing with the business, and this is an opportunity to grow with it and take on more responsibility and scope
  • Gain broad exposure to international legal work across UK/Ireland, Europe & Australia and be responsible for your own portfolio of jurisdictions
