Liaison Officer
Summary
Liaises with federal, state, and local officials to coordinate enforcement efforts and public communications for the Wage and Hour Division.
The mission of the Wage and Hour Division is to develop national policies and procedures and provide executive direction for administering major departmental programs. This position assists the Division's Director in regards to public affairs matters, Including the implications of planned programs and operations, new initiatives, strategies, need to know considerations and the like. The incumbent represents the Administrator in related efforts with the Department and other Federal agencies.
As a Liaison Officer you will perform the following duties which are not all-inclusive: Maintains liaison and effective relations with a variety of Federal, State, and local government officials to help ensure understanding, cooperation, and consistency during the conduct of specific investigations and/or enforcement proceedings. Confers with the Solicitor's Office (SOL) in obtaining advice and understanding on legal matters arising prior to and during the enforcement, administration and interpretations of the statues. Informs, enlightens, placates, and educates the general and specialized publics about the Division's diverse activities, enforcement efforts and goals. Provides advice assistance, and consultation to WHD Regional Administrators and Program Staff in conjunction/coordination with Department of Labor (DOL) Regional Public Affairs Directors. Develops solutions and materials in anticipation of and in response to regional information needs. Coordinates responses to sensitive external matters in the regions to conform to understood policy. Maintained comprehensive awareness of WHD programs and activities through liaison and personal contacts with key agency members, WHD's National Office and field officials, and diverse individuals and offices outside the department. Initiates action to implement within the appropriate functional confines of the Division of Communications new or revised WHD functions and facilitates the conduct and fulfillment of WHD responsibilities and goals. Implements office efforts promoting Federal/State cooperation and coordination through recommendations on specific proposals for WHO/State cooperative enforcement projects. Provides a national clearinghouse for tracking and distributing relevant data, reports, and/or statistics on WHD/State activities.
