Library Courier (PT) - Fincastle Library

Job Summary: This position provides transportation services for library materials to all Botetourt Library locations on an as needed basis.

Key Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

• Responsible for making deliveries to Botetourt’s library locations on a daily basis.
• Responsible for making deliveries to other libraries in the Roanoke Valley Libraries Consortium or other County offices as scheduled or assigned.
• Responsible for adhering to all traffic laws and regulations.
• Efficiently sort materials carefully and accurately into proper transport boxes.
• Stays aware of maintenance needs of delivery vehicle and notifies appropriate personnel when necessary.
• Take vehicle in for repairs and maintenance as needed.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
• 2 years of commercial driving experience preferred.
• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Must possess excellent customer service.
• Ability to follow detailed directions and instructions.
• Ability to use personal computer and internet services.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with library staff.
• Must possess a valid Virginia’s Driver’s License and maintain a good driving record.

Physical Demands/Special Work Environment:

• Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling.
• Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
• Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
• Able to read and understand labeling of library materials and transportation boxes.
• Worker must be able to remain in a stationary position for up to 50% of the time.
• The person in this position needs to frequently move about inside and outside of library buildings to effectively pick up and deliver materials.
