Licensed Veterinary Technician – Specialty/ECC Float

Love specialty medicine, but don’t want to choose just one specialty?

At Animal Emergency & Referral Center of Minnesota (AERC), our Specialty/ECC Float LVTs bring their skills wherever they’re needed most—supporting specialty services as well as our Emergency & Critical Care team.

This is a great role for an experienced technician who enjoys variety, adapts quickly, and wants the opportunity to work with a wide range of patients, clinicians, and services. One shift might have you supporting outpatient specialty appointments and procedures; another might put you alongside our ECC team caring for hospitalized or critically ill patients.

What You’ll Do

As a Specialty/ECC Float LVT, you’ll work across AERC’s specialty and emergency services based on patient care and staffing needs. Depending on the day, you may:

  • Provide advanced nursing care for specialty, emergency, and hospitalized patients

  • Assist veterinarians with examinations, diagnostics, treatments, and procedures

  • Perform venipuncture, IV catheter placement, laboratory testing, radiography, sample collection, medication administration, and other technical procedures

  • Prepare for and assist with sedation and anesthesia

  • Monitor patients and recognize changes in clinical status

  • Support outpatient appointments, procedures, and hospitalized patient care

  • Communicate with clients and members of the medical team

  • Maintain accurate medical records and patient charges

  • Provide appropriate direction and supervision to Veterinary Assistants and other support team members

  • Jump into different services and workflows while maintaining excellent patient care

Why Float?

Because sometimes variety is exactly what makes veterinary medicine interesting.

Our Float team gets the opportunity to work alongside clinicians and technicians throughout the hospital, build skills across multiple disciplines, and see cases that simply aren’t encountered in most practices.

You’ll become familiar with multiple services, but you won’t be expected to know everything on day one. We’ll provide training and orientation to help you become comfortable with the teams and workflows you’ll support.
