Lifeguard and CPR Instructor
Summary
Teaches lifeguarding and CPR certification courses, manages classroom logistics, and ensures safety compliance at a nonprofit community center.
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The American Red Cross instructor at The YMCA of the Jersey Shore intentionally fosters a cause-centered culture that is welcoming, genuine, hopeful, nurturing, and determined.
- Manages and oversees all aspects of the certification courses, including communication with students, tracking attendance, classroom set up/breakdown, equipment set up/breakdown.
- Evaluates issues pertaining to students, equipment and classroom space. Reports concerns to supervisors.
- Provides approved training and support to the students to assist them in achieving their certification.
- Adapts teaching skills to the age, experience, and ability of the participants so they can meet course objectives.
- Familiarizes, researches, and identifies new materials to stay current with requirements of courses and instructor responsibilities.
- Oversees overall safety of the class, recognizes and responds to emergencies in accordance with the facilities emergency action plan.
- Enforces all building and aquatic policies, rules and procedures.
- Completes all records and reports required for course in a timely manner. Provides these documents to supervisor upon completion of the courses.
