Lifeguard Coordinator

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of lifeguarding experience required.
  • Previous supervisory or lead experience preferred.
  • Experience in aquatic safety, risk management, and emergency response required.

Required Certifications

  • Current American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification (required).
  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid Certification.
  • Oxygen Administration Certification.
  • Ability to obtain YMCA or Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor certification within six (6) months of hire (preferred).
  • Maintain all required certifications throughout employment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong leadership, organizational, and staff supervision skills.
  • Ability to effectively monitor and maintain safety in a dynamic aquatic environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to respond calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Knowledge of aquatic risk management, water safety practices, and emergency response procedures.
  • Ability to work independently while exercising sound judgment and decision-making.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with members, staff, and the community.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

Work is performed primarily in an indoor aquatic facility with elevated noise levels, warm temperatures, and high humidity. The position may involve exposure to pool chemicals, emergency situations, and challenging customer service interactions. Requires the ability to respond effectively in emergency situations and maintain professionalism in a fast-paced, high-activity environment

This position requires regular evening and weekend availability, as well as flexibility to meet program and operational needs.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, reach, and move throughout the facility for extended periods.
  • Ability to work on wet and slippery surfaces safely.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted and heavier loads with assistance.
  • Ability to maintain the physical fitness required to perform water rescues and emergency response duties.
  • Ability to work in warm, humid pool environments and be exposed to pool chemicals and aquatic conditions.
