Position: Lifeguard

Join Our Team!

At the DoubleTree by Hilton New York – LaGuardia Airport, we're looking for a Lifeguard who takes pride in keeping our guests safe while creating a warm, welcoming atmosphere at our Health Club and pool. If you're vigilant, guest-focused, and ready to be both a safety expert and a friendly face for our guests, we'd love to meet you.

About the Role

As our Lifeguard, you'll be responsible for the safety of all patrons in our aquatic facility - monitoring pool activity, preventing accidents, and responding quickly and confidently in an emergency. Just as importantly, you'll help create a comfortable, welcoming experience for every guest who visits our Health Club.

What You'll Do

  • Monitor the pool area at all times to prevent accidents and respond immediately to emergencies
  • Follow the emergency action plan and provide emergency care/treatment until EMS arrives
  • Maintain and log pH and chlorine levels for both the pool and Jacuzzi
  • Advise swimmers of unsafe practices and enforce pool rules and regulations
  • Verify valid ID for Health Club members and guests, and ensure anyone under 18 is accompanied by an adult
  • Maintain order and safety throughout the Health Club, and ensure no unauthorized gatherings occur in the pool area
  • Keep the pool deck clear of puddles and hazards at all times
  • Maintain cleanliness throughout the facility, including:
    • Emptying trash in the Fitness Room and pool area
    • Replenishing paper towels and gym wipes
    • Mopping and brushing pool/Jacuzzi tiles and surrounding areas
    • Cleaning and wiping down pool furniture
    • Removing dirty towels
    • Washing down sauna benches and removing trash
  • Greet every guest warmly, introducing yourself by name and using guest names throughout interactions
  • Ensure guests are greeted as soon as they enter the Health Club, verbally or through welcoming body language
  • Follow through on any guest issues or discrepancies related to Guest Services
  • Ensure availability and proper upkeep of emergency equipment
  • At closing, ensure all doors are secured, the facility is vacated, and any items, keys, and remotes are returned to the Front Desk
  • Comply with all company standards and policies as outlined in the Employee Handbook
  • Other duties as required

What We're Looking For

  • 1–2 years of lifeguard experience; hotel setting strongly preferred
  • Strong customer service skills and professional written/verbal communication
  • A calm, alert demeanor with the ability to act quickly and decisively in emergencies
  • Comfort engaging warmly with guests while maintaining safety standards
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and remain standing for extended periods
  • Availability for flexible scheduling, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
