Anticipated Start Date: August 16,2026 (flexible)
Position Summary:
The Altoona Campus is looking for a full-time Lifeguard to join our Aquatics team.
Lifeguards are the most visible and important presence in the pool area. Every day, you help create a safe, welcoming environment for hundreds of members and guests who are relying on your awareness, judgment, and steady presence. A lot of what makes the facility feel safe comes down to you being rescue ready and doing your job well.
The role takes focus, good decision-making, and consistency with facility rule enforcement. It also may require providing care or responding to an emergency within a moment's notice. Being a lifeguard is a position with day-to-day impact- the work you do directly affects how safely and confidently hundreds of people are able to enjoy the pool. We’re looking for someone dependable who takes pride in showing up, staying engaged, and being part of a team that counts on them.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain continuous, active surveillance of assigned aquatic zones at all times, ensuring a safe environment for all members and guests
- Serve as the primary safety presence in the pool area, remaining alert, rescue-ready, and fully engaged throughout each shift
- Identify and respond immediately to potential hazards, unsafe behavior, or developing emergencies
- Enforce facility rules and safety procedures consistently, professionally, and with sound judgment
- Activate Emergency Action Plan (EAP) procedures when needed and coordinate effectively with team members during emergency situations
- Provide emergency care as trained through the American Red Cross Lifeguarding certification, including water rescues, CPR, and first aid, and continue care until relieved by EMS
- Conduct routine pool and hot tub chemical testing, accurately record results, and report any concerns to leadership
- Complete timely, accurate, and factual documentation of incidents, rescues, and safety-related events before the end of each shift
- Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free aquatic environment
- Communicate clearly and professionally with coworkers, supervisors, and guests regarding safety, expectations, and facility operations
- Participate in all required in-service training and ongoing skill development
Required Qualifications:
- Current, valid American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification (must be in good standing at time of hire)
- Ability to meet physical and cognitive demands of lifeguarding, including surveillance, rescue response, and emergency care
Schedule:
- Monday–Friday: 8:45 AM–3:30 PM
- Approximately 36–40 hours per week
- Monthly paid in-service training (typically held one weekend day/month)
- Schedule posted in advance on a seasonal basis
What We’re Looking For:
- Consistent attentiveness and strong situational awareness in a lifeguard environment
- Sound judgment when assessing risk and responding to changing conditions
- Strict adherence to safety procedures, emergency protocols, and facility standards
- Calm, effective response under pressure during emergencies
- Professional communication with patrons and team members
- Accountability in maintaining a safe aquatic environment at all times
- Reliability and consistency in daily attendance and performance
Benefits:
- Competitive starting pay based on experience
- Full-time health, dental, and vision insurance available
- Paid vacation, sick leave, and eligible holidays
- 401(k) retirement plan
