Lifeguard

Essential Job Functions:

· Maintain designated post. Supervise and observe all swimmers at all times to ensure their safety. Prepare for immediate response to distress.

· Maintain situational awareness at all times. Visually scan water areas periodically for evidence of rip tides, currents, sharks, man-o-wars, and other variable ocean hazards.

· Respond to emergencies and rescue swimmers in danger of drowning.

· Enforce pool and beach rules of safety and conduct, in a direct but tactful manner.

· Provide high level of service to Club members and guests. Respond to needs, questions and suggestions of the members, in a courteous, responsive and respectful manner. Ensure a safe and pleasant environment for members and guests.

· Implement aquatic operations and procedures, as directed.

· Administer first aid as needed.

· Maintain and demonstrate all required safety, water, and rescue proficiencies and certifications. Participate in periodic training rescues in both ocean and pool. Attend periodic mandatory lifeguard training meetings.

Other Duties & Responsibilities:

· Keep area clean and safe. Enforce all environmental principles.

· Conduct swimming lessons, pool games, and other recreational pool/beach activities as directed.

· May perform other assignments and duties, as area needs require.

Skills & Knowledge:

• Rescue and lifesaving practices and procedures. Ability to perform lifeguarding duties including: rescues, first aid, surveillance.
• Familiar with surf beaches. Able to swim.
• Swim 500 yards under 10 minutes. Run half mile under 4 minutes.
• Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety practices applicable to working as a lifeguard.
• Skill to safety operate assigned tools and equipment.
• Calm deportment during emotionally stressful situations. Handle frightened and injured persons in water rescue situations.
• Speak, read and write in English language; understand and follow written & oral instructions; maintain accurate records and generate periodic reports.
• Strong interpersonal skills, with demonstrated tact, courtesy, and diplomacy; communicate and assist members in a courteous and professional manner; establish & maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers and members/guests.
• Ability to safely operate beach utility vehicle.
• Ability to safely operate PWC rescue ski.
