Lifeguard

POSITION SUMMARY:

The lifeguard is responsible for maintaining safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck, and surrounding areas. Creates a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement in accordance with the Y’s policies and procedures. In addition, every position in the YMCA of East Tennessee is responsible for upholding the Judeo-Christian principles that are central to our mission by modeling behaviors that exemplify the Y’s core values - caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.

CORE FUNCTIONS:

1. Maintains constant surveillance of the pool area.

2. Maintains effective, positive relationships with the members, participants and other staff.

3. Maintains accurate records as required by the Y and/or the state Health Department code.

4. Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed.

5. Checks the pool for hazardous conditions when arriving.

6. Performs chemical testing and documents results at appropriate times, and takes appropriate action.

7. Attends all staff meetings and training as required.

8. Follows all Y policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.

9. Other duties may be assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
