Lifeguard

The Lifeguard is responsible for maintaining safe swimming conditions in the pool, on the deck, and throughout the surrounding aquatic areas. This position provides active surveillance, consistently enforces safety rules, responds promptly to emergencies, and creates a safe, welcoming environment for YMCA members and guests.

Essential responsibilities include:

• Maintain active and continuous surveillance of assigned aquatic areas.
• Recognize and respond immediately to emergencies in accordance with YMCA procedures and established rescue protocols.
• Perform rescues, provide emergency care, and complete required incident reports.
• Consistently enforce pool rules, safety policies, and aquatic-area guidelines.
• Inspect the pool and surrounding areas for hazards before and during each shift.
• Perform required equipment checks and ensure emergency equipment is available and operational.
• Conduct and document pool chemical testing when not actively guarding, as assigned.
• Maintain accurate records required by the YMCA and applicable health and safety regulations.
• Develop positive and professional relationships with members, participants, guests, and coworkers.
• Assist with maintaining the cleanliness of the pool deck, bathrooms, and other assigned areas.
• Attend required staff meetings, drills, and in-service training.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
