Lifeguard
Your Mission
As a part-time Lifeguard at City Center YMCA (265 Harrisburg Avenue, Lancaster, PA), you’re the calm, confident presence that keeps every swim session safe, smooth, and welcoming. This role exists to protect members and guests while upholding YMCA standards—especially when the pool gets loud, busy, and exciting.
Key responsibilities:
- Maintain vigilant, active surveillance and stay rescue-ready on deck
- Respond quickly to emergencies and follow YMCA/Red Cross rescue protocols
- Enforce pool rules consistently and respectfully; communicate clearly in a loud environment
- Complete openings/closings, maintain a neat deck, and record required checks (e.g., chemical readings)
- Coordinate clean shift transitions and attend required trainings/meetings
Required qualifications/skills:
- American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification (or willingness to obtain)
- CPR/AED & First Aid for Professional Rescuers; strong swimming, surveillance, and rescue skills
- State Police, Child Abuse, and FBI Fingerprint Clearances; Mandated Reporter Certification
- Flexible availability for evenings, weekends, holidays, and seasonal shifts

On Deck Energy
You clock in for an evening shift, gear up, and step onto the deck as the pool comes alive—lap swimmers cutting clean lines, families arriving after work, and weekend crowds building momentum. Between rotations, you check in with teammates, share quick updates, and keep the space running smoothly. You’ll answer member questions on the fly, reset the deck as activity changes, and stay locked in as the environment shifts from calm to action-packed. Some days end with a crisp close and tidy setup for the next crew; other days bring seasonal rushes where the pace stays thrilling from start to finish.
Obtain Criminal background check, Child Abuse Clearance, and FBI fingerprint clearance.
