Lift Operations Manager - Aspen Mountain

The Lift Operations Manager is an essential member of the mountain operations team who manages all aspects of lift operations for a single mountain. This position reports to the Mountain Manager.

  • The salary range for this position is $70,000 - $85,000. Actual pay will be dependent on budget and experience; all our salaried roles are eligible for bonus.

Essential Job Functions

  • Develop and oversee all phases of lift operations including opening, operating and closing procedures
  • Oversee hiring and manage training for all newly hired and returning staff
  • Responsible for the department’s compliance with all Colorado Passenger Tramway Safety Board regulations as well as OSHA and other regulatory agency regulations
  • Create and maintain department manuals as well as log books and other related documents
  • Oversee training and ensure completion of all training documentation required by Aspen Skiing Company and Colorado Passenger Tramway Safety Board Regulations
  • Manage department budget including maintaining an accurate payroll
  • Oversee disciplinary procedures and performance appraisals
  • Thoroughly and accurately complete administrative tasks as required/requested
  • Exhibit support for Guest Service initiatives
  • Flexible with schedule to accommodate daily operation requirements as well as special events
  • Responsible for compliance with safety practices to minimize workers comp exposure
  • Other duties as assigned

Education & Experience Requirements

  • Must be 18 years or older
  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Valid, current, unrestricted driver’s license required

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Proficient knowledge in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to communicate and follow oral or written directions in English is required
  • Proficient knowledge in lift attendant responsibilities
  • Proficient experience in customer service
  • Knowledge of the Colorado Passenger Tramway Safety Board (CPTSB) & American National Standards Institute (ANSI) codes pertaining to ski lifts
  • Lift Maintenance & Operations – In-depth understanding of ski lift mechanics, daily inspections, and emergency procedures.
  • Safety Regulations & Compliance – Knowledge of OSHA, ANSI, and state ski lift safety regulations to ensure a secure operating environment.
  • Awareness of resort policies, guest interaction best practices, and how lift operations impact overall mountain safety
  • Provides leadership, training, motivation and may assist with coaching/documentation and performance reviews for staff
  • Ability to understand and give directions and communicate effectively in English
  • Demonstrates high-level of proficiency in all aspects of lift operations
  • Capable of making sound judgments in fast-paced or emergency situations
  • Able to work long hours in varying mountain weather conditions, including extreme cold and high altitudes
  • Ensures all safety checks, logs, and operational procedures are meticulously followed to maintain compliance and guest safety

Work Environment and Physical Demands

  • Ability to reach, crouch, kneel, stand or be on your feet, kneel and bend for extended periods of time
  • Regularly work in adverse conditions and required to use protective equipment to prevent exposure to hazardous materials and may be required to walk on slippery and uneven surfaces
  • Must be able to occasionally lift, push or pull 50 lbs. individually or with assistance
  • Must be able to ski or snowboard at an advanced level
