Linux Kernel / BSP / Bootloader Software Engineer (TV SoC)
Description
[About the Team]
We are the Kernel team behind Realtek's TV SoCs, owning system software from first power-on to mass production: bootloader, arm64 Linux kernel, BSP and Android TV. Team members contribute to upstream Linux and AOSP.
[Responsibilities]
1. SoC bring-up: port Linux kernel/BSP to new ARM64 SoCs (Device Tree, clock/power/interrupt/memory) and work with IC teams to catch silicon issues early
2. Bootloader: U-Boot, ATF, DDR init, eMMC/NAND boot, secure boot, boot-time optimization
3. Performance: memory management (lmkd, vm, zram/zsmalloc), boot time and app launch, driven by benchmarks and data
4. Stability: root-cause kernel panics, deadlocks, ANRs and use-after-free bugs with Trace32/JTAG, ftrace, perfetto and KASAN; on-site with customers when needed
5. Workflow: code review, upstreaming, code-sync and CI tooling
[Requirements]
- BS or above in CS/EE or related fields
- Strong C: pointers, memory allocation, concurrency
- Solid OS fundamentals: processes/threads, memory management, interrupts, synchronization
- Able to read English technical documents and datasheets
[What Matters More]
- Prioritize well and step in for the team when needed
- When blocked by another team, bring evidence and get a clear next step and ETA
- Summarize a messy situation in a few lines
- Control experiment conditions, back conclusions with data, verify changes before handing them off
[Nice to Have]
Embedded Linux/Android/driver development; ARM64, Device Tree, U-Boot/ATF, secure boot; Trace32/JTAG; upstream Linux or AOSP contributions; SoC bring-up or mass-production experience; Python/Shell automation
[By Level]
- Engineer: no kernel experience required. Strong C/OS fundamentals and fast learning are enough; senior engineers will mentor you on real projects
- Senior Engineer: 5+ years of Linux kernel/BSP experience; independently own a subsystem or SoC bring-up; drive issues to closure with customers and cross-functional teams; mentor junior engineers
