Experienced Linux System Administrator – Remote Desktop Assignment

We are seeking an experienced Linux System Administrator with a strong focus on automation, architecture, and platform engineering to design, build, and maintain our Remote Desktop (VDI) environment.

This infrastructure supports GPU-accelerated remote desktops for pre- and post-processing of HPC workloads, including automotive simulations, visualization, and rendering. The platform runs on Rocky Linux / RHEL, uses X11 and Xfce4, and leverages NICE DCV, EF Portal (EnginFrame), and SLURM to deliver high-performance graphical sessions remotely.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, deploy, and maintain a Linux-based GPU-enabled Remote Desktop environment (DCV, EnginFrame, SLURM, X11, Xfce4 on Rocky Linux).

• Develop automation and Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC), primarily using Ansible, to ensure consistent and repeatable deployments.

• Ensure security, scalability, performance, and long-term maintainability of the platform.

• Collaborate closely with HPC and Infrastructure Engineering teams.

• Document architecture, configurations, deployment workflows, and operational procedures.

Required Competencies

• Solid experience as a Linux System Administrator, ideally with Rocky Linux or RHEL.

• Strong automation and Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) skills, preferably using Ansible or similar tools.

• Proficiency in scripting, primarily Bash; Python is considered an advantage.

• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and version control systems such as Git and GitLab.

• Understanding of X11, desktop environments (Xfce4, GNOME), and remote rendering/display protocols.

• Good knowledge of networking, security, and monitoring tools, with Prometheus-based observability being preferred.

• Strong architectural mindset with the ability to design scalable and maintainable systems.

• Ability to work independently and take ownership of complex environments.

Nice to Have

• Experience working with HPC environments and the SLURM workload manager.

• Experience with NICE DCV, EnginFrame (EF Portal), Open OnDemand, or similar remote visualization platforms.

• Familiarity with container technologies such as Docker and Podman, as well as monitoring and observability tooling.
