CDL-A Local Intermodal Driver – Good Pay + $10K Bonus

Earn approximately $75,000 per year hauling no-touch intermodal freight to Chicago-area rail yards. This local Monday–Friday position offers daily home time, paid training, additional load pay, and a $10,000 bonus.

Pay Details

  • Average Weekly Pay: Approximately $1,442
  • Bonus: $10,000
  • New drivers start at $0.48 CPM, with a $0.01 annual increase up to $0.55 CPM.
  • All hub miles paid, including loaded and empty miles.
  • Customer live load: $65 — approximately 20% of freight
  • Customer drop-and-hook: $40 — approximately 80% of freight
  • Hazmat load: +$25
  • Refrigerated load: +$30
  • Empty move: $15
  • Crosstown drop: $23–$55, based on ramp distance
  • Rail delay pay: $20/hour after the first hour
  • Additional waiting-time pay may apply based on the applicable delay policy.
  • Ramp training: $250 per day for at least 5 full days

Job Details

  • 100% no-touch freight
  • Drivers travel to Chicago rail yards daily.
  • Approximately 1,500 miles per week
  • Hazmat endorsement required within 90 days of hire.
  • Hazmat costs may be reimbursed after obtaining the endorsement with required paperwork.
  • Potential opportunity to transfer to a preferred shift after 6 months.

Shift Details

  • Monday–Friday schedule
  • 11:00 PM start time
  • Home daily
  • Thanksgiving and Christmas time off is not guaranteed, although most drivers may be off.
  • Holiday pay is available after 90 days on the account.

Job Requirements

  • Valid Class A CDL
  • Minimum 3 months of verifiable Class A CDL experience
  • DOT Medical Card
  • Clean driving record
  • No SAP drivers
  • Hazmat endorsement within 90 days of hire
  • Ability to operate in Chicago-area rail yards
  • Willingness to work overnight shifts
  • No smoking inside the truck

Equipment & Benefits

  • Intermodal container and chassis equipment
  • Slip-seat operation
  • Tractors remain at the yard during time off
  • Trucks cannot be taken home
  • PTO accrual begins on the first day of employment
  • 18 paid days off initially: 12 PTO days + 6 holidays
  • After 1–5 years: 22 paid days off
  • 6–13 years: 27 paid days off
  • 14–18 years: 30 paid days off
  • 19+ years: 32 paid days off
