Looking for Operations Manager for Civil Engineering Company
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Growth & Financial Survival
Business Planning: Formulate and execute a lean, phased business plan to achieve rapid profitability.
Capital Optimization: Manage the initial small-scale investment strictly, monitoring daily cash flow and reducing overheads.
P&L Responsibility: Hold ultimate accountability for the company’s profit margins, budgeting, and cost-control measures.
Corporate Governance: Establish legal compliance, company registration standards, and local engineering licensing frameworks.
Hands-On Project Delivery
Technical Oversight: Lead civil, structural, or minor infrastructure projects directly from site survey to handover.
Site Supervision: Conduct regular site visits to monitor contractor performance, material quality, and timeline adherence.
Risk Management: Mitigate commercial risks, contractual disputes, and structural engineering liabilities early.
Subcontractor Management: Source, negotiate with, and supervise cost-effective third-party contractors and supplier networks.
Aggressive Business Development
Client Acquisition: Pitch directly to private developers, main contractors, asset owners, and residential clients to secure contracts.
Bidding & Estimating: Prepare accurate, competitive project costing estimates and proposals to win tender awards.
Brand Building: Establish the firm's initial market reputation through high-quality delivery and networking.
Lean Operations & Leadership
Resourceful Hiring: Recruit a skeleton crew of multi-skilled engineers, drafters, or supervisors as project volumes scale.
Regulatory Liaison: Act as the primary contact for building authorities, environmental agencies, and safety inspectors.
Safety Culture: Implement basic, strict workplace safety and health (WSH) protocols to avoid costly penalties or shutdowns.
Job Requirements & Qualifications
Experience & Education
Degree: Bachelor's degree or higher in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related building discipline.
Experience: 13+ years of hands-on civil engineering experience, with at least 5 years in a project lead or managerial capacity.
Track Record: Proven history of delivering small-to-medium civil projects (e.g., earthworks, additions & alterations, minor structural works) on time and within budget.
Skills & Competencies
Technical Mastery: Strong understanding of local building codes, structural calculations, and engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD).
Entrepreneurial Mindset: High adaptability, financial resourcefulness, and willingness to perform both administrative and on-site tasks.
Commercial Acumen: Exceptional negotiation skills for dealing with subcontractors and clients to secure favorable payment terms.
Licensing (Preferred): IES accredited Resident Engineer (RE) status or qualification to act as a key technical officer for corporate licensing.
