Position Purpose

The Loss Prevention Specialist is responsible for protecting company assets by reducing shrink, preventing theft and fraud, supporting operational compliance, and promoting a safe shopping and working environment. This position works closely with store leadership, associates, and law enforcement when necessary to identify risks, investigate incidents, and ensure adherence to company policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

Asset Protection & Shrink Reduction

  • Monitor store activities to identify and prevent internal and external theft.
  • Conduct surveillance and investigations related to suspected theft, fraud, policy violations, and safety incidents.
  • Support shrink reduction initiatives through operational audits and compliance reviews.
  • Inspect high-risk departments and merchandise areas to identify vulnerabilities.
  • Review inventory discrepancies and assist in determining root causes.

Investigations

  • Conduct preliminary investigations involving theft, fraud, workplace misconduct, and other loss-related incidents.
  • Gather, document, and preserve evidence including reports, video footage, and witness statements.
  • Prepare accurate and detailed case files in accordance with company standards.
  • Partner with law enforcement and court personnel when required.
  • Maintain confidentiality throughout all investigative processes.

Safety & Compliance

  • Promote a culture of safety and compliance throughout the store.
  • Ensure adherence to company policies, operational procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct safety inspections and identify potential hazards.
  • Assist with accident investigations and follow-up corrective actions.
  • Support emergency preparedness and response procedures.

Training & Awareness

  • Educate associates on theft prevention, fraud awareness, and asset protection best practices.
  • Reinforce operational controls that minimize loss and improve accountability.
  • Assist management teams with compliance coaching and procedural training.
  • Promote awareness of safety and security programs.

Reporting & Documentation

  • Complete accurate and timely reports for incidents, investigations, audits, and safety concerns.
  • Analyze data and trends to identify recurring loss issues and recommend corrective actions.
  • Maintain records in accordance with company policies and legal requirements.
  • Communicate findings and recommendations to store and district leadership.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Previous retail, security, law enforcement, military, or loss prevention experience preferred.
  • Strong investigative, observation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate with store leadership.
  • Proficiency with basic computer applications and reporting systems.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to move throughout all store areas, including sales floor, receiving, and backroom locations.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to observe activities in various store environments and conditions.
