Low Latency Java Developer - McGregor Boyall

Discussion

I'm working with a global electronic market maker hiring a low-latency Java developer in London, joining the team that builds and owns their client-facing trading infrastructure.

What the role covers:

  • Designing and maintaining proprietary low-latency trading systems, front-to-back
  • Order management, exchange connectivity, smart order routing, internalisation and clearing
  • Building tools on top of a high-performance platform used by hundreds of clients
  • Scalability and performance work across the stack
  • A mix of projects - frontend-facing through to backend infrastructure, in different languages

What they're looking for:

  • Strong experience in Java, Go or C++ building distributed, scalable systems
  • Roughly 2 - 7 years shipping and maintaining highly optimised code
  • Python, high-concurrency systems, low-latency or high-transaction environments, relational databases - all useful, none essential
  • CS, Computer Engineering or equivalent background
  • Communication skills that hold up in technical debate

Worth knowing: flat hierarchy, meritocratic, fast-paced. No finance knowledge expected - they teach it. 26 days annual leave, private health/dental/optical, income protection, pension, gym subsidy, catered lunch daily.

This suits an engineer who wants ownership early, likes performance-critical problems, and would rather learn the market from the inside than sit in a large corporate engineering function.

If that sounds like your kind of environment, feel free to apply with your latest CV.
